It's been awhile, old friend

Goldenstash

Time was, you could see Goldenstash pretty much everywhere in the Boston area. But like little Jackie Paper, he seemed to come no more. So I was a bit surprised this morning to look up on Essex Street in Chinatown, and there he was.

About 25ish or so years ago these little molded plastic 2 headed bunnies in varying colors started appearing in odd places all over town.

We called 'em toynbee bunnies and a friend of mine had quite the collection going.

To us it was less gruesome but just as much a mystery as the nanny from Zanzibar.

Posted on a sign for a pay phone, no less. Mr. Goldenstash could have been up there for decades!

While the shell of the phone booth is still there (across an alley from a Verizon switching station), there is no phone.

I still see him fairly regularly. Just glad that most of the yellow stickers for that awful band Stocklan are mostly gone. They were like a sloppier Nickelback.

...the answer to a similar set of mysteries:

* Who was responsible for the KILL YOUR TELEVISION bumper stickers everywhere in the 80s, and...

* Was it a local phenomenon, or national?

I feel like "Kill Your Television" was one of those hokey 90's stickers you'd find at Newbury Comics or Spencer Gifts. Along with "Mean People Suck" and "Visualize Whirled Peas"
