Board has no beef with proposed steakhouse downtown

Future home of Wolfgang's Steakhouse

Steakhouse will moove into this building.

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday approved plans for a New York-based chain of steakhouses to open its first Boston restaurant at One Boston Place - that hulking modernish office building at State and Washington streets across from the Old State House and the Ames Hotel.

Of course, nobody will flock to a steakhouse without adult beverages: The board approved Wolfgang's purchase of an all-alcohol license from the owners of the defunct Stephi's in Southie.

Every restaurant that opens in that location seems to close in a matter of months. There have been several.

the entire area is seemingly cursed outside of that one seafood restaurant across from the vet's shelter and the places in Pi Alley. i've lost count of how many restaurants have gone out of business at the ames hotel, the lobby of the BNY building all the way over to the brueggers on school street.

Wasn’t this the same place that a horrifying Irish knockoff bar met its demise. Place was so badly run that they didn’t have beer for their opening day....

It was also "Paul's" which lasted about five minutes, and a few other places as well.

You got Moo just up the street and Ruth's Chris just down the street, so it seems like a weird location for a steak joint, but having been to neither of these, can't speak to the quality of the food.
