An anti-Semite drives around Peabody in a pickup

The Jewish Journal reports the city of Peabody has scheduled a solidarity rally for City Hall at 4 p.m. this Wednesday following an anti-Semitic incident on May 25:

[Rabbi Nechemia] Schusterman said that while out on a walk with Rabbi Sruli Baron, a man in a loud pickup truck swore at him and threw a penny at him and dared the rabbi to pick it up.

PLEASE attempt to geta license plate #, good description of vehicle, of course the driver, etc. Better still, try and get vid with a phone.

I understand many victims of such random occurrences are startled and frightened. I hope police make an effort to get any posdible video from the area during the time it occurred. I would love to actually see who this person is and see and them prosecuted and shamed.

I'm not condoning this behavior - quite the opposite, I'm all for 'shaming.' But what crime was committed?

Disturbing the peace. They can also invoke the laws against hate crimes.

The Attorney General’s Office enforces the Massachusetts Civil Rights Act and protects against hate crimes, including threats, harassment, violence, and other bias-motivated conduct.

This is usually called a hate "incident". But they need to be addressed and at least investigated like crimes to see who people like this are and what else they might be up to. At the very least identify him.

The more I think about it though, this is probably an incident where the "broken windows" theory of policing would actually benefit everyone.

...pretty damn quick if some no-neck lout in a pickemup truck cruised alongside you, threw things at you and cursed you.

Littering? Assault with a dangerous weapon (penny)? Disturbing the peace?

I mean those charges just aren't going to hold up in court from my experience. I'm not going to lose any sleep if these scumbags are charged with one of the above, but unless these guys really threw the penny at them, you don't have much.

Just pull em over, arrest them and let them go the next day without charges.

You know, send a message or whatever, kinda like when the Staties didn't like the skateboarders mouthing off to them so they get arrested and charges get tossed out later right?

If I didn't know better, I would think you were advocating for knowingly unjustifiable arrests. Surely you see how such a principle would be horribly abused if someone not as enlightened as you were making the decision as to when to abuse the government's policing power.

Maybe you could focus all of that energy on changing the law if you think that such behavior ought to be followed by charges.

Well not really, its no laughing matter that law enforcement has actually arrested people on dubious charges, only to dropped later on, as clear intimidation tactic to flex power.

But its comical to hear them claim that they just can't do anything about this because goly gee schucks, whatever would we charge them with.

As for changing the law, you know where I stand on reckless/dangerous driving, lets get at it.

May 25 was a Saturday, so, unfortunately, the rabbis probably were not carrying phones.

Example #67849953213 that people in loud vehicles who rev engines, blast music, honk horns etc are dumb assholes.

People should be riding bikes. That’s what I always say.

Based on religion or for any other reason. That's what I always say.

What other Posts do you have for me, BostonDog?

How about “Genocide is bad”?

How did you choose your handle, anyway? Pretty awesome, bro.

Seems rather unnecessary...

... essentially all this individual's posts are (at best) "unnecessary".

That when Kristalnacht happened, those people weren't driving around in pickup trucks from location to location.

But hey, whatever gets you through the day, which reminds me of my reaction to this story overall, which is-

What the heck is wrong with people?!

Did the Rabbi's get a plate number,or even a partial one?
It shouldn't be too hard to track down if they did.

J/k

Just wanted to get in before the nonsense starts

(Slightly off topic, sorry) But I, for one, would LOVE a comment tab that gives you the choice to interact versus just having them appear below the story.

Our brains would probably appreciate that fraction of a second to decide compared to seeing some off the wall troll post that is intended to provoke and annoy you.

But I'll take a look - the software can be convoluted (for a non-programmer like me, at any rate).

In the meantime, just look for either the ad or the big white space after the story and stop reading there :-).

Works even better.

The Lynn Hell's Angel chapter uses nazi "SS" bolts. How could anyone Jewish be associated with that?

(There's also a white supremacist gang out of the Middleton Jail that uses the bolts...the tags are likely them as HA's don't tag like that..)

But swearing and throwing a penny at someone is not a crime.

I'll drive by, swear and throw pennies at you.

There's been an area of Lynn, from downtown to parts of "East Lynn" that have seen nazi "SS" bolts and swastica tags and there's been no public outcry except for me going to the ADL to report them. The Lynn Police know, as do the city councilors. No rally. No public acknowledgement. It's amazing the difference between how Lynn and other North Shore communities have handled these incidents. I think in Lynn they want to sweep it under the rug.
