Woman charged with gunfire on Methadone Mile early in the morning

Boston Police report arresting two people around 4 a.m. in connection with gunfire at Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue - a woman they say fired a gun more than once down Mass. Ave. in the general direction of the Southeast Expressway and a man they say tried to cover for her even as he was packing a loaded gun.

Police say Lakeesha Braggs, 25, of Roxbury, was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and possession of a Class A substance. She was already wanted out of Roxbury District Court on charges of receiving stolen property and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, as well as being a fugitive from justice.

Also arrested was Tiernan Walsh, 18, of Mattapan. According to police:

On arrival, officers spoke to a white male operating a bright orange bicycle who stated that a female was shooting off fireworks in the area. Officers continued to search the area of Mass Ave and Melnea Cass for the female, eventually locating her within a group of individuals including the male on the bicycle. As officers approached, the female began to flee on foot, but was located and apprehended a short distance away. The male on the bicycle fled in the opposite direction, but was also located and apprehended. Officers recovered ten small plastic bags containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine as well as a Smith & Wesson .38 SPL loaded with four rounds of live ammunition and two spent shell casings from the male suspect.

Walsh was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of Class B drugs with intent to distribute, police say.

Innocent, etc.
