Center Plaza escalator now a plant stand
By adamg on Mon, 07/01/2019 - 11:09am
Sarah Bourne snapped the plants where an escalator used to be at Center Plaza on Cambridge Street. There's a new public-access elevator to the left of the stairs.

MBTA take note
Here's the solution to the T's never-ending escalator problems.
Yes
Convert them to more never-ending elevator problems.
"going green" a little too literally
Why don't we have the outdoor (and indoor) escalators like you see in Europe where they are barely moving until someone steps on to one, and then they accelerate to normal speed?
That would be better than plants.
Are you literally kidding?
Are you literally kidding? Europe??
Alternate use for elevators
The new public access urinal for the street population. Just like the T elevators. Sorry, but it's the truth.
Speculation follows
... at some point in the distant past the escalator was an agreed condition of building, and either that has been forgotten about or the owner is hoping it will be forgotten about.
Reason?
Is there a reason they got rid of the escalator?
Ugh
It's bad enough that the T stopped putting in down escalators (downscalators?) years ago. Escalators are vastly better, with elevators as back-up for wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility aids. Escalators move more people faster (you don't have to wait for them!) and people don't pee on them.
