Police arrest Roxbury man in connection with Copley Square shooting

Boston Police report arresting a Roxbury man on charges related to a woman being shot at Huntington Avenue and Blagden Street, on the side of the BPL main library, around 2 a.m. on Sept. 8.

Jamal Smith, 34, was arrested by members of the BPD gang unit in Brockton, on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police say. He was not, however, charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, which suggests police are continuing to look for a second suspect.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Wow, thanks for being the only news org to cover this shooting. I remember when it first happened and people asked for your source(s). Others said it couldn't have happened because the Globe and all local tv news didn't run stories on it, despite it being a shooting in Back Bay. BPD needs to follow-up with more info on the actual incident.

For the record, though, I had the location of the shooting wrong - I originally posted it happened on Boylston Street outside the CVS, while it was actually a block away, on the Huntington Avenue side of the BPL (perhaps they found the victim on Boylston).

And kudos to the police -- Boston and Brockton -- for getting the alleged shooter off the streets, at least temporarily.

I may have missed it, but never saw a word about this in the "mainstream" media. What would we do without you?

I also never saw this shooting reported by local tv news... I guess that would disrupt their usual pattern of weather, mosquito spraying, pot shops, and all things Tom Brady reporting.

Did your tremendously advanced Google searching abilities find any reporting on the incident, or just the arrest? Because, you know, that was kind of the point. Adam posted about it the day it happened.

Had I been more awake last night, I would have realized that while the guy was charged with firing a gun, he was not charged with the actual shooting, which suggests there might be a second suspect still out there.
