Big-rig driver chooses unwisely in Malden; storrows at Orange Line bridge

Truck storrowed in Malden

Roving UHub photographer Paul Sherman was forced to stop roving this morning due to a truck driver who sardine-canned at the Medford Street Orange Line bridge in Malden this morning.

Serious 3 rig crash on I-495 in Bolton. Then another serious 2 rig crash on the Mass Pike in Palmer. And this Storrowing in Malden. Although I wouldn't catagorize it as a true sardine can, given the minimal damage to the roof.

Nicely peeled back, relatively low speed, truck probably 13'+, bridge 12'6". Best part? "LOGISTICS", HA! (hopefully no injuries, just shame)

The person I assume to have been the driver was standing on the side of the road looking sheepish.

8.5/10 Storrow

These storrowing stories, to be honest, get a little boring after a while -- because the overpass always seems to win. A contest is more exciting if the victor isn't known in advance.

Does the truck ever win, at least a little? Are the overpasses ever damaged at all?

Yeah. Sometimes these moronic drivers cause subway or commuter rail lines to be suspended when they damage bridges that they run on. Yet another reason we should implement huge tolls on drivers and use the money for public transportation.

Yeah huge tolls on all those evil trucks delivering goods that we all use...
Any damage is paid through insurance...

Huge trucks usually bring food around the city every day from my understanding of distribution. What's the alternative?

Is this a trick question?

I'd say that Canadian driver that took out the supports to 93 some years ago won.

Glad to see side guards on a big rig like this. Wont help with the sardine effect, but super helpful keeping bicyclists and pedestrians out from under...

Got to use Charles street.

Does this happen in other cities as often as it happens here? And if so, what do they call it?

in Durham North Carolina. The Norfolk Southern–Gregson Street Overpass railroad bridge also known as the 11' 8" bridge or "The Can-opener" even has it's own website http://11foot8.com/ with films of the many incidents. Alas they are in the process of raising it.
