Charlie lives! And, no, he's never gonna get offa that train

Jessica Saint Jean reports from a Red Line train on which she'd been trapped in a tunnel for an hour (the one that shut down the whole line, perhaps?):

Why does nobody call 911 when something like this happens? If anything, emergency responders can get the attention of the T and the people stuck for a rapid response, transparent information about the problem, etc...

That’s not funny. Seriously, this happens far too frequently. An hour stuck inside a train? The motorpersons have been coached to inform passengers on a script about what’s happening. It was clear from firsthand accounts that they were left in the lurch.

But what’s worse is that the boilerplate sneeze of a “mechanical problem” that the T says could be an infinite number of things. Shouldn’t the passengers have a right to know what’s broken on their train? Shouldn’t there be a certain time limit before you decide to evacuate? With some discretion on sensitive information, it’s at least more helpful to say “the brakes are locked” or “there’s an issue with the power supply.” But to have no information for an hour while sitting in a derelict tunnel in forty-year-old trains is certainly cause for concern.

Screw this sarcastic rhetoric about the T. It’s not helpful. Us passengers are sick of it.

Not sarcastic.

That does sound naive. What do you expect the police to do, except laugh? Unless there were a medical emergency or a crime being committed, I can't see the police doing jack squat in that situation.

...a recent poll shows that 73% of the Commonwealth thinks Charle Faker is doing a good job. It boggles my mind. God save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. And don't forget to blame Beverly Scott.

Every poll is a good poll. Baker's PR team is comparable in size to a few European nations. Everything is covered from head to toe. Something goes wrong with the T?, blame every administration since the 70s. Your patronage transportation secretary was caught putting her RMV duties on cruise control? Just put together a report exonerating you and your secretary. Unless Baker is visited by a few ghosts this Christmas, don't expect anything to change.

You mean, we actually have a governor and not a haircut?

Even Mussolini, man.

Mussolini making the trains run on time is a myth and he mostly took credit for the post-WWI fixes that were set in motion before the fascists took power.

Stuck on the train for an entire hour, I'm surprised nobody went berserk. Given some of the people I've seen on the T, this had the potential to be a dangerous situation.

With a delay that long, I'm always amazed that people aren't forced to, um, void themselves right there in the car. "Pee before you T!"

"Officials are working to push the train off of the tracks."

Perhaps that's why it took so long to get the situation cleared up.

residences so that more people can be crammed into trains that are stuck in tunnels or packed onto platforms. Continued building without infrastructure improvements is only leading us to disaster.

Let's just have lots more people living in the suburbs and driving personal cars in. Surely that will only improve things!
