This should be confusing for all of the people who tell everyone that they are "From Boston" but have never been to Dorchester.

Oh my god, you managed to turn a post about a basketball jersey into some sort of Real Bostonian litmus test. It must be EXHAUSTING to be you.

Because nobody from the suburbs ever drives down the Southeast Expressway.

No one from the suburbs ever drive down the Southeast expressway...except everyone from the south shore that drives into Boston to work everyday. I live in Dot and the roads are clogged with people from the south shore driving by the gas tank.

It was sarcasm. Sorry for the confusion.

Painting on the gas tank.

Talk about subtle!

This summer I saw a guy getting the propane tank for his grill refilled: had painted it the same way.

Nice to see that the ignorant slander that's dogged this beautiful artwork since its installation may be starting to fade from memory.

What ignorant slander? Is it the art itself? Art is subjective..

I remember the tanks being painted many, many years ago.

Curious about the slander about these tanks....

I always thought that everyone who ever saw the tank received a direct intercranial transmission with the story of the Ho Chih Minh profile. See, e.g., https://www.theboxerboston.com/blog/legend-rainbow-swash/

Oh that, having lived through that time, I remember the talk but it really wasn't that big of a deal. You know just because someone comes up with a crazy theory, you don't have to give it legs...

And Sister Corita followed the most basic tenant of painting, "I paint what I see".

When they decided to remove one of the tanks years ago, they chose the painted one. The tank that was kept was then painted to match the tank that had been removed.

Smart move to cover Ho Chi Minh's face on the uniform version, though.

Thanks for coming through on that one.

So perhaps you should be a little bit more grateful to bgl for giving you the comment you were begging for.

Easier than t-ball at Victory Park - not really sure what they were expecting there.

They should wear them. It would bring attention to the piece (though it isn't exactly the original)

It looks good even though I don't think it says much about Boston culturally. BUT, it doesn't get any more Boston than worrying about Ho Chi Minh hiding in there somewhere. How about we keep this and add a pack of Parliaments coming out of a shirt pocket?
