Man charged with North Station attack; already had warrants charging him with beating other people

Transit Police report arresting Robert Gaul, 45, on charges he smashed a woman in the face with a blunt object for no particular reason as she sat in North Station Wednesday night.

Gaul was already wanted on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60 out of Lowell District Court and a charge of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon out of Brockton District Court, police say.

Police say detectives got a tip today they might find Gaul near the Park Street T stop:

While there at approximately 1:40PM they observed a male, later identified as Robert Gaul, 45, of Boston who matched the subject depicted in the referenced photographs. Detectives approached Gaul and confirmed he was in fact the subject depicted from the surveillance photo. Gaul also identified himself from the photo.

Gaul was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police say.

All I want to say is thank you police. For every person who wants to criticize and analyze, I don't even care. Excuse me if I want to thank the men and women of our law enforcement. Maybe this guy needs some serious analyzation himself.

Gaul also identified himself from the photo.

Cop: "Are you the guy in this photo?"
Any sane person: "Sorry, Officer, I can't help you with that."
This guy: "Yeah, that's me."

I guess Robert had the Gaul to attack another person while already having a warrant. (rimshot)
