If you want to get into the roast-beef game but don't think you have the chops for it, Kelly's might be cooking up an answer

Kelly's, the Revere Beach landmark with outlets in Danvers, Saugus and Medford, has set up a subsidiary called Kelly's Roast Beef Franchising, LLC, whose purpose should be obvious from the name, but just in case, if you call up the certificate of organization, its purpose is defined:

THE COMPANY IS ORGANIZED FOR ALL LAWFUL PURPOSES FOR WHICH A COMPANY MAY OPERATE IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, FRANCHISING, LICENSING, OPERATIONS AND OTHER BUSINESS ARRANGEMENTS PERTAINING TO THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND TRADEMARKS OF KELLY'S ROAST BEEF.

The ultimate example of very open franchising is Subway, and they are doing alright. The only thing that might take them down is having franchises all over the place. And that concept brings us to Dunkin Donuts. In Boston, at least, they're everywhere.

I'd give you an example of slow and steady franchising, with a model wherein a franchisee cannot have more than one location, but it's a surprisingly controversial fast food place that is best left unnamed.

I would totally be down working with them. I'd have the dining area outfitted with sesame seed bun chairs and fountain soda cup tables.For extra class the windows would have roast beef curtains!!

That location in the Jordan's furniture store in Natick/Framingham I thought was a franchise. It just didn't make sense to me location wise, so that made me think that it was a franchise.

The other locations closer to the original make a little bit more sense, but I worry that they'll over expand.

I read up on the closing back when it closed. No mention of a franchisee. The logistics of a store 15 miles from any other store probably lead to the demise, though.
