Hmmm I would've thought her first question
would've been "do you agree with my hard-hitting opinion piece from awhile ago about saying goodbye to NFL cheerleaders?" but instead she invoked the Kennedy name. That's original, Marge.
Markey
Markey has been one of the most technically literate Senators. He was one of the few who understood Net Neutrality. He's generally on the right side of legislation involving computers.
I like the fact he hasn't tried to be a showboat senator and he shouldn't start now.
I don't love Markey and will support someone better when they along. But Kennedy is not someone better.
agreed
well, mostly agreed.
Markey is one of the better senators, and isn't just a neoliberal twit.
Kennedy is pretty "meh". Strikes me that he is just trying to cash in on his family name and advance his career. He really hasn't done anything significant, outside of wearing too much chapstick on national television when he did his rebuttal to the SOTU address a few years back.
joe kennedy lll
if the democrats are counting on JK3 in four years they are in serious trouble. i cant stand markey but kennedy makes him seem smart and likable.
Joe should set his sights on taking out Charlie Baker
And maybe showing us and New England what he's made of....
As a Dem named K in a Dem state, could that be difficult?
Millions are dead because of
Millions are dead because of Net Neutrality.
I remember the horrors.
LOL The only thing we can thank markey for is the extra charges on our cable bills.
LOL. I laugh at markey.
Meanwhile
Did you take your iodine this morning?
Oh ... wait. Markey has held the nuclear industry accountable, and has worked to keep the chances of rogue states and terrorists getting nukes low as well.
Grow up and look at his whole record.
Unless red hair just gets you feeling ... funny.
I've had a hard time with this from the beginning
He was a back of the room assistant DA and the leading reason to vote for him seemed to be his last name. Sure he checks all the boxes - like every other progressive in town. Other than that last name, I've never figured out any compelling reason to vote for him over anybody else.
Seems like a perfectly nice guy, just nothing else unique about him (say like an Ayanna Pressley as a female/minority or a Seth Moulton as a veteran that bring unique points of view and backgrounds to Congress).
When Joe Kennedy says a
When Joe Kennedy says a Massachusetts Senator is not only able to but should be compelled to travel the country supporting other candidates because the seat back home is "safe" , what does he mean by that? Does he forget that Scott Brown won that seat before we took it back? Does he mean that what I care about as an individual does not matter because he is going to just vote the party line?
Pet peeve: He isn't a
Pet peeve: He isn't a "Massachusetts Senator". He's a United States Senator.
I tried to listen to the
I tried to listen to the debate. Turned it on and off 3 times. I'm just too overloaded on political speak right now.
In that brief listen someone mentioned their uncle's accomplishments.
Really? Your uncle? Pathetic how all that matters is nepotism.
Is Markey running this campaign ad yet?
In every campaign ad, Markey should simply use the audio/video of this Kennedy III quote. It's practically an endorsement or at least an indicator that even Kennedy III admits no change is urgent. Kennedy III should take the approach Biden successfully used in 2019, no public appearances or statements.
I am seriously trying to figure out
who Joe Kennedy's target demographic is. Markey is a bland but reliably progressive figure from a bland but usually-progressive state. Kennedy isn't attacking him from the left, and his major policy points (mostly around the Green New Deal, but there are others in there) are all things that Markey has consistently voted for. Kennedy is already a progressive voice in the House; there's literally no reason for him to make this Senate run, other than a hazy sense that his last name entitles him to it. Is he looking to pick up Massachusetts Republican voters? (You know, the ones who so famously love Kennedys?) He's not courting moderates; who else is going to vote for him?
My sense is that Markey is going to tear him to shreds in the primary, because Markey is an incumbent and Kennedy isn't giving voters any reason not to back the incumbent. Is this like a Brewster's Millions thing where Kennedy has to blow $30 million worth of campaign money?
Joe
His target demographic is people who dampen themselves at the prospect of another Kennedy.
Then Senate President Therese Murray, Jan. 2011 after hearing Joe3's coming out speech when he decided to enter the family business:
At least this one seems like he could be the most reasonable one they've pushed at us since JFK.
The weird thing
At this point you've got to be fairly old to remember JFK and RFK when they were in office. Ted is more recent but he's been gone for a while now too.
The Kennedy brand doesn't pack much of a punch to those under 45.
Name a bug, not a feature for some
This is 2020. For all that we're in MA, given his lack of compelling arguments on why he deserves our vote over Markey, surely I can't be the only voter thinking we don't need more members of the ruling class in government, particularly at this point in time?
Is he Joe III or Joe IV?
Is he Joe III or Joe IV?
There was the old man, then his eldest son (died in WWII, or before?), then Joe for Oil. Or were not all of them same middle initial?
Joe For Oil is Joe II. This
The World War II pilot was Joe Jr. Joe For Oil is Joe II. This is his dipshit ginger son Joe III (RFK's grandson).
I would guess he is the IV.
I would guess he is the IV. Joe jr WWII , Oil Joe would be III, thus ginger Joe is IV.
Joe For Oil is II
He is the grandson of Joe Sr, but not the son of Joe Jr. His formal name appears everywhere as "Joseph P. Kennedy II".
Thank you, all three of you.
Thank you, all three of you.
Now for whatever reason I'm thinking of Kennedy candidacies in terms of cloning fiction. Trying to decide which is the more apt (and/or disturbing) metaphor:
- replicative fading like Michael Keaton in Multiplicity, or
- consistent-quality, loyal servant of the established power structure like the Weyouns in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Kennedy is my house rep and I
Kennedy is my house rep and I mostly feel good about his record, but I look forward to voting for Markey in the primary. One of main issues with Kennedy is his propensity for showboating. We get it bro, you want higher office.
The real difference between
The real difference between these two is their ages.
