It's bad enough being cooped up without having to worry about raw sewage flowing into your home, so stop flushing wipes

Clogged up sewer pipe in Revere

And that's what a large wadded up ball of flushed wipes looks like.

Officials in Revere are the latest to plead with residents to stop flushing wipes down the toilet, because they don't dissolve and instead just form giant, impenetrable wads that can lead to sewer backups. They posted this photo from one of the city's pump stations yesterday to show a potential sewage flood in the making.

which means you have to pay for it (in most places). That can be an expensive job.

When your plumber hands you that $600 repair bill to unclog your sewer pipe full of wipes, thats $600 you are never getting back. Don't ever experience this embarrassing and pricey life lesson!

Is $600 an accurate estimate? That's a relief -- I was afraid if that ever happened to my sewer line that it would be thousands of dollars.

(which you also shouldn't flush)

A lot of it depends on where the sewer line is located on your property and what's involved in clearing whatever you did to it. If they can take it apart enough from your basement and snake or flush it out, probably about $600. If they have to jackhammer up your driveway or something and take apart a whole bunch of sections of pipe, then yes, considerably more.

I've dealt with a plumber recently on this matter. If the clog is severe, the plumber could charge you up to $800. The thousands of dollars would only apply if your sewer pipe collapsed and needed complete replacement. I would not laugh this off if you are a homeowner. After you pay your plumber for something you KNEW you were not supposed to flush to begin with, I can guarantee that you will never flush ANYTHING but toilet paper down ANY toilet for the rest of your life. Thats why this is a life lesson. Could have used those hundreds of dollars for more important things, right?

Depending on what kind of property you have can go from 4k to 14k (a lot of ledge on an obscure property). But I do believe the City regulates which companies can and cannot do this work because they then need to be tied back into the City water/sewer.

The City can't get any money from a poor person.

But they can condemn a house that doesn't have proper sanitation. So maybe don't try flushing those wipes.

the city actually has a program that does help offset the costs of replacing the main sewer from house to street, depending on a battery of criteria. did it a year or two ago.

Yes they can. To be fair, some of the packaging is a bit misleading, or so I'm told, in saying they are flushable.
I had a situation years ago, someone did a thing involving paper towels or DD napkins or something. Clogged the house trap. It was an ancient cast iron 'U' trap a couple of feet above the floor. Actually made it easier.
Best job I ever paid someone else to do...until the clean-up. It was a sub-basement so I just left it there, let it dry out, then shoveled it away.

Good times.

Since people are cooped and and probably watching more TV than usual, TV stations should put out a PSA telling people not to flush the wipes. Radio, too.

I still see commercials for Sandals resorts, Las Vegas Hotels, and Stubhub events.

TV stations are going to be pretty unhappy if every prohibited thing pulls their ads. After all, most ads show at least two unrelated people interacting in person.

I was just thinking these companies could get a refund or a later date for these types of ads....

is heading for a giant fall. Too many stations and streaming services offering too much "original" programming, much of which is nearly identical to everyone else's 'original' programming.

This is the next big bubble that's going to burst.

I was generally speaking about the next few months. People looking to upgrade their home entertainment setups. A lot of waste out there though your right.

Everyone in MA should venmo $5 to the guy who has to clean this thing out. Maybe Baker can void the state ethics laws for a few weeks on this one....

have any experience, I'm sure they've dealt with far worse than a pump clogged with wipes.

That with so many people buying All The Toilet Paper, they would know to use their new 1-year stash instead of wipes.

This, of course, assumes that the people buying the TP are the same people buying all the wipes, since those are sold out too.
