Cambridge police officer faces possible discipline for mistakenly revealing his true, rather graphic feelings about Joe Kennedy on the department Twitter feed

The Cambridge Police Department is apologizing for a tweet this afternoon that used graphic language to denounce US Rep. Joe Kennedy III - and which also took a potshot at US Sen. Ed Markey, whom Kennedy is trying to replace.

The department's Twitter feed, which normally just announces possible crimes in progress and statements about arrests, took a decidedly Republican turn this afternoon, in response to a WCVB tweet about Kennedy making a pronouncement about the difficulties of acquiring PPE these days:

Graphic attack on Joe Kennedy

Another liberal fucking jerk who just happens to be better than the clown he's running against. Sad for us.

In a statement, Cambridge Police say:

Earlier this afternoon, a member of the Cambridge Police Department, who had access to the Department’s Twitter account, inadvertently posted political commentary on the department account rather than their personal account, that was inappropriate, unprofessional and disrespectful. While the post was quickly removed, the concerning statements cannot be erased.

These actions do not reflect the professionalism that we as a department take great pride in and we want to sincerely apologize to the Congressman and those individuals the statement was directed at.

The department will take appropriate action in response to this regrettable incident.

Separate apps...or at the least, browsers, for your work and personal accounts. Hell, separate devices if at all possible.

BUT TRUE

Oh, wait, did you disagree with Rep. Kennedy's statement? Do you somehow think it's normal that our state needs to rely on billionaires to fly secret plane loads of substandard masks in from foreign countries while the the federal government seizes everything they can find and sends it to republican states.

Are you really as moronically partisan as the cambridge police officer in charge of their twitter feed?

A deliberate action, and they should be fired

You are still around? Shouldn’t you have taken your buddy Trump’s advice and swallowed disinfectants?

I don't know who this is and don't care but I'd think it reasonable, Adam, to not have people wish death upon other people here, I suppose they think they are being clever.

You do an awesome job moderating, thank you.

pensions and have taxpayer subsidized health coverage for life, support the people that want to do away with those benefits. Why not get rid of those socialist programs now and get ahead of future public debt? If your answer is that you fund your own benefits, then getting rid of the public part shouldn't be a problem. If you have any questions on how things would work out, call Senator Rand Paul but wait until after September 11th.

Correction: they want to do away with those benefits for OTHER people.

Republicans kiss blue ass, and most cops are too stupid to see through this.

And at least one stupid thug at that.

Should I need to call the police I wouldn't want one of them disregarding the call because they don't like how I vote.

Somehow I don't see him offering to resign since he apparently hates the predominant majority of voters in Cambridge, sadly.

If you hate liberals, why did you take a job protecting them?

I know one possible answer to this question, which inspires the maxim "A good prosecutor doesn't ask a question without knowing the answer." As always, I'm in the wrong business.

Note the spelling in “then” graphic quote and “than” in cited/typed quote.

Doesn’t the CPD have a basic grammar test for their Twitter feeders?
I mean... it IS Cambridge.

It doesn’t change the meaning for me, just the unfortunate dum-dum tone.

P.S. I have never mispelt a single word ever. Promise!

It's not knowing that "than" and "then" are different words.

That's friggin' third grade grammar.

Not for one second do I believe that this was a mistake. This is an abuse of power by a public employee, abusing their station to promote their political views. The officer should be fired.

is not necessarily a sworn officer. Cambridge Police has more civilian employees than many mid-size departments have sworn officers. Nowhere in the above statement does the Commish say it was one of the sworn officers. Just something to consider until the facts are revealed about whether the idiot carries a badge or not.

Most people would think a member of the department means an officer.

It’s so unsurprising to read about how cops tend to see politics that it’s almost not news. It would be a lot more shocking if the police account revealed a cop’s disgust with the guy in the White House.

Yup. And problematic to say the least considering how much power they have and how deeply they can affect the lives of others.

Besides what has already been said, I'll point out that it's a violation of state conflict of interest rules to use city resources for political purposes.

Kennedy worked at Cambridge District Court and seemed to have a good reputation, so I am a little surprised person with twitter access has this position.
Whoever sent this should be revealed as would seem the subject of simple FOIA request.

Maybe he's more Cambridgian than he's getting credit for. He's both endorsing Kennedy, and calling him a liberal jerk.

He's just a typical bellyaching right wing assclown, biting the hand that feeds him. Literally feeding at the public trough and has the crust to whine about "liberal" politicians.
