Police: Man was speeding around Dorchester with a gun loaded with 18 rounds

Boston Police report officers arrested a Mattapan man on gun charges after they pulled him over for speeding at Bradshaw and Charlotte streets in Dorchester around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

As officers approached the motor vehicle, they observed the driver, later identified as Arthur Small-Dowell, 28, of Mattapan, quickly lean toward the center console of the vehicle before returning to an upright position. Officers observed what looked to be an empty fanny pack on the suspects.

After a Registry of Motor Vehicles query, it was revealed to officers that Arthur Small-Dowell was driving on a restricted driver’s license. Since the motor vehicle was to be towed, officers conducted a motor vehicle inventory search and recovered from the center console, a loaded Glock 26, 9mm, with one round in the chamber and seventeen rounds in the magazine.

Small-Dowell was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, police say.

So almost every single day, there is a story just like this one. I think BPD is doing a great job, and I'm grateful to have so many illegal guns off the street.

Why? How many more guns are we going to produce in the U.S. today? You really think there's suddenly going to be a shortage?

Are you involved in Boston gang life? If not this gun was never going to affect you.

Does it matter that it's illegal? No, legal gun owners are terrifying. I'm concerned with white supremacists marching down American streets with assault rifles, not this guy. Those are the ones that will be indiscriminately shooting at innocent people.

And stop lying - this is obviously a post by someone looking for any way to say something pro police. That's what drove the post, not being "grateful" about taking the guns.

Adding to my last comment. All of these gun arrests - almost every day - are a good illustration of why police officers might be cautious of every traffic stop and interaction.

I don't think that excuses abuses or misbehavior. But it certainly explains some of their caution and genuine risks they face daily.

Defunding then is stupid.

Defunding

I do not think it means what you think it means.

My question is why are there so many guns on the streets of Boston? I would also ask what seems to be the fascination with gun culture among our citizens but I realize that's an asinine question.

Rather than a fascination, ask what is happening that people feel they need to have them, in spite of the illegality.

Because other states make it easy to buy them.
