Gunfire in Roxbury followed by chases, crash and arrest on Mission Hill, police say

Boston Police report arresting a Jamaica Plain man after gunfire on Martin Luther King Boulevard near Malcolm X Park, and a series of chases that ended when he crashed his car on Mission Hill - and then failed to outrun officers when he tried to escape on foot.

Police say officers were responding to a gunfire report at 165 MLK Blvd. around 2 this morning when they got a report of a car matching a description from that scene going down Washington Street and onto Marcella Street:

The vehicle then turned onto Thornton St, while travelling the wrong way, towards Valentine St. The vehicle continued onto Fulda St and took a right onto Highland St, before pulling over at a high rate of speed at Highland and Marcella St. Two officers, on an unrelated radio call, approached the vehicle in an attempt to conduct a threshold inquiry, but the suspect tried to pull away, almost striking one of the officers with the motor vehicle, and ultimately causing another department motor vehicle to make contact with the rear of the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect then drove off at a high rate of speed, almost striking a detective who was crossing the street, onto Centre St towards Cedar St and Columbus Avenue. Officers broadcast a description of the vehicle as it turned onto Columbus Ave, at which time an officer in a marked Boston Police Cruiser activated his lights and sirens and followed the vehicle from Cedar St to Terrace St. The suspects motor vehicle then struck a fence at New Heath St. and Terrace St. The officer exited his cruiser as the suspect fled from the vehicle and jumped over a fence. The officer followed, while demanding the suspect to stop.

Hassaun Daily, 28, was initially charged with failure to stop for a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to obey traffic signals and speeding police say. After officers found "a loaded silver and black firearm, Kahr Arms CW40"> on Thornton Street, where Daily would have tossed it from the driver's side of a car going down the street the wrong way, police say, Daily was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm subsequent offense and being a Level 1 armed career criminal, which could mean a longer sentence if he's convicted on the other charges.

Daily is not unfamiliar to local police. He was arrested on March 13, 2019 on gun charges and on Nov. 24, 2019 on charges he tried to keep officers from arresting another man on gun charges by spitting on and trying to choke one of them.

Innocent, etc.

To provide details as to why Daily was out on the streets. This isn't a nice guy and will ultimately kill someone if not detained.
