East Boston could get a 24-hour Starbucks

Starbucks goes before the Licensing Board for the City that Always Sleeps next week for permission to keep its outlet at 430 McClellan Highway, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The coffee place, in the heart of the strip of park-n-fly and other airport-related concerns, currently has hours of 5 a.m. to midnight.

The board's Zoomed hearings begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Magoo will take a triple non-fat grand toursimo venti chai latte with skim goats milk, whole moo milk, dallop o’whipped cream with a sprinkle of cinnamon and espresso poured on top in the shape of a smiley face. Magoo.

Maverick Sq in East Boston will be the the ideal location , it should be right in the brand new High End BLOCK 8 apartment building( under construction) right in the heart of Maverick Sq.

Is it just for the Drive thru only? or would the inside be open too?

I don't see any real reason for the inside to be open all night, as most of their business would be drive thru between 12-5 anyways. Probably mostly airport workers and early morning travelers.

Regardless good place for this, it is in a residential void, and right on 1A

I think it would specify "drive-through only" if it were that, but we'll find out for sure on Wednesday.

Drive-through only should be illegal. They should at least allow people to walk up to the window.

You should not need to own and be using an automobile to be a customer of any business. Except maybe a car wash.

There are not a lot of people who might walk there.

Sorry got to disagree with you on this comment Adam, there is a Hilton Garden Inn across diagonally connected via sidewalks and crosswalks the whole way. I can imagine for example a flight crew member staying over might be interested in Starbucks and a short walk before headed to Logan to fly an early morning flight and wouldn’t have a car,
as they take cruise shuttles to the airport. There are sidewalks and crosswalks on 1A here - it’s not an attractive area to walk but there could be pedestrians.

It doesn't matter.

On principle, everyone should have the right to visit a public business even if they can't drive, can't afford a car, or choose not to use one.

For financial reasons it might not make sense to keep the space open on the inside... But if they opened up the inside , post pandemic, I could see myself sitting inside early or late. There's been random times I've been in and about where this would have been handy.

As an employee there, to my knowledge we will be closing the cafe at 10/11, and will be drive through only from 11-4:30 AM :D hope this helps

Assuming nobody in the neighberhood would be bothered by a 24 hour drive thru I hope this passes. It would be very useful

in the middle of a developed urban area. And the level of people's laziness just keeps growing exponentially.

Have you been to this Starbucks? It's not in Maverick Square, it's on a highway to the airport in the middle of an Industrial zone. If you are a traditional urban dweller this is not your Starbucks. Not to mention even in non covid days the line of cars is huge there... There would not be enough parking to support all those people.

Also have you not been paying attention to the past few months?

Also also are you even from New England? I live in Chelsea and we have a drive thru Starbucks in Lynn, Saugus and East Boston. Drive thru Dunkin Donuts on the other hand, we have more of those in Chelsea then all Starbucks combined Incan get to easily.

I prefer my local coffee shop but they are still closed. My secondary coffee shop is still closed and for months only the East Boston Starbucks drive thru was open for non Dunkin Options because it had a drive tru.
