College student, possibly under influence of hallucinogen, jumps through Huntington Avenue window
By adamg on Sat, 09/05/2020 - 10:58am
Live Boston reports a college student apparently tripping on a hallucinogen with friends jumped though a Huntington Avenue apartment window and fell 40 to 50 feet to the ground around 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
The man suffered serious injuries, but is expected to survive the fall in the rear of 833 Huntington Ave., near South Huntington Ave.
When police and EMTs arrived, they found, in addition to the man on the ground, a woman undergoing a panic attack and a second woman who was also suffering emotional issues They were taken to a local hospital for care.

In my 43 years, I've never hear of someone jumping because they took a hallucinogen, except in Nightmare on Elm Street 4.
I always thought it was just something they told kids so they wouldn't do drugs. It was more of a urban legend than anything else (like razor blades inside halloween candy)
Apparently its really a thing. I'll admit I've had some crazy moments in my younger years where it could have been possible, but really never.
Then again what I read about today's Hallucinogens that are on the street today aren't your parents LSD or Mushrooms. They are far worse.
I guess you missed the ABC Afterschool Special
Where Helen Hunt jumps out of a window all whacked out on goofballs and was witnessed by her teacher, Christina Crawford...
There is also a Six Feet
There is also a Six Feet Under episode that starts with a dude in the 70s jumping because he thought he could float or something.
I recently saw that episode.
I recently saw that episode. I was wondering why they were including someone who died in the 1970s. One of the more emotional and disturbing episodes, ultimately.
And, on a separate note, comic Mike Birbiglia jumped through a window while sleepwalking.
There was also that "Dragnet
There was also that "Dragnet '67" LSD episode with "Blue Boy"- who *SPOILER ALERT* I recall jumped to his demise at the end
THAT was my "Scared Straight" moment
I was maybe 10 years old when I saw this in re-runs. Holy sh*t I swore I would never do drugs. It plays a bit like Refer Madness now, but it sure worked back in the day.
Spiderman dealt with an episode like this.
I haven't heard of it in real life either though.
That was just a hair before my time
That aired in 1982. I was like 6 at the time.
I also think my favorite local kids show was on at that time. ("JJ, TX, & friends" on WTXX-TV 20, now WCCT-20) so we probably didnt watch
I also forgot about this Afterschool Special. But again like Nightmare on Elm Street 4, its just fiction.
Are you sure you’re not
Are you sure you’re not thinking of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3? That had the jump scene.
Go Ask Alice, I think she'll
Go Ask Alice, I think she'll know . . .
The book as well as the movie. Though I guess the song is likely partly based on real events.
yeah it was 3
That helen hunt after school special use to give me nightmares
im pretty sure it was PCP/Angel Dust that sent her flying out that window. but that image either way still pops up in my mind. That small roll is what launched her career tho
Its not out of the realm of possibility
I don't know of anyone who challenged a window, but I do know that a couple of my housemates were restrained by others. one from trying to fly off of a roof and another from doing yoga balance poses on the parapet of the Sheraton, which could have similar results.
The real lesson here: don't do drugs alone. Having a couple of babysitters around is a good practice to follow.
I was absolutely convinced I could fly while on LSD
Fortunately I was coherent enough to know that if I could fly I could start by taking off from ground level.
The LSD jumping urban mythology...
largely stemmed from the death of Art Linkletter's daughter in the late 60's.
Interestingly, Ed Durston of "I drink your blood" movie fame was with her when she jumped and apparently he was also the last person to see another who later disappeared without a trace.
Note to self: do not party with Ed at altitude.
Yeah, I looked this up too
I immediately thought of Diane Linkletter when I saw this topic, and was surprised to learn the following:
1) The idea that LSD played a role in Diane Linkletter's death came solely from Art Linkletter himself, it was never officially established that she had taken it when she jumped/fell from her kitchen window. She was known to have been very depressed during the weeks before her death, which was ruled a suicide. This did not stop her father from becoming a vocal anti-drug crusader.
2) This was not Mr. Durston's only presence at a mysterious celebrity death. He was vacationing with the actress Carol Wayne (most famous for doing skits with Johnny Carson) when they had an argument. She was later found dead in the ocean.
So yeah, I don't recommend spending alone time with him, at any altitude.
as a kid in the 70s, if it wasn't Anita Bryant spouting homophobia, Madelyn Murray O'Hara being ostracized for atheism, or Art et al being anti-drug, Phil Donahue wasn't worth watching
Anita Bryant in Boston
I went to a large anti-Anita Bryant rally in the park in Copley Square in 1978. She was in town for a speaking engagement and was staying at the Copley Plaza. It was at the height of the politically fabricated arrests of gay men at the Boston Public Library and politically motivated arrests of a fake "gay sex ring" in Chelsea. That peaceful but now forgotten rally could be a lesson to a lot of today's violent and misinformed protesters. We defeated the old bag and her anti-gay (we didn't have the LGBTQIA+ alphabet soup yet) legislation and we did it largely peacefully, except for that time she got a pie in the face. And I have to give the old girl credit, she came back with a hilarious retort, "at least it was a fruit pie".
Act Up called - they want to explain to you how things really went down when it came to AIDS and gay rights.
Something about "protest" not meaning just standing there.
Get your history straight
Get your history straight (pun intended), kid. Anita Bryant and her Save Our Children crusade, AND the Copley rally in protest of Bryant as well as the false arrests of gay men in Boston, Revere and Chelsea, predate the AIDS crisis by at least three years and predates ACT UP by nine years. And a direct result of the Copley rally and related pushback of the false arrests was the formation of Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD).
Ever hear of Act Up
Sounds like you haven't.
Or you thought they held civilized afternoon protest tea times or something.
I can say one thing about Act Up
They really, really hated Dr. Anthony Fauci.
SMH @ ignorance
Mmmmm,. EVERY DRUG EFFECTS, EVERYONE DIFFERENTLY!!!!
Drugs are bad Mmmmkay
Hope he learns from this.
IF he lives to tell about it...
40 to 50 feet is about 3 to 4 stories. Chances of survival is very low if you fall from that height.
And if you do survive
there's a good chance you'll be paralyzed.
(that's how Robert Wyatt, the musician, broke his back)
Some drugs are OK sometimes
but I have a little feeling this was not responsible drug use.
Good drugs, bad drugs
There's times for usin' 'em, and times for not usin' 'em.
Will they be expelled? Don't
Will they be expelled? Don't want them in the neighborhood.
According to @crimetracker it
According to @crimetracker it was LSD: https://twitter.com/crimetracker/status/1302039252138700800 but want we really need to know is which college the autodefenestrator is currently attending, how much the tuition is and will he/they be receiving any tuition reimbursements should they not be able to attend for the rest of the semester. All extremely important data points. Also, $5 says it was MassArt but Northeastern would be a decent bet as well.
So they think it was LSD
Your tweet link says "told officers that they took LSD". Well thats what they *think* they took for now. If there's a toxicology done, it will be interested to see what it was.
Just going to say this because.. as I said above, today's hallucinogens are not your parents LSD.
My point to that is this.. there are many new hallucinogens hitting the street. Many are being sold as LSD or "will have LSD-like effects", such as 25i-NBOMe otherwise known as N-Bomb or Solaris.
I only know about this stuff because a) I like to read about this shit b) I had some friends get sold this crap as "LSD" since it came on blotter paper. They both said while the effects were similar, it could have took a turn for the bad quickly. c) I know its available pretty easily on college campus vs actual LSD. (I seem to attract college guys these days..)
Plus if you read drug experiences pages on various boards, there's lots of posts about this stuff and "was sold to me as LSD" posts. Its also SUPER concentrated compared what you would take for a normal LSD dose.
That said, and my comment about jumping being uncommon... if you get a bad trip easier on 25i , then its very possible.
In my younger years, I've been told I got one drug, and in reality.. it was something different.
And if it was, I feel sorry for the kid even more so. He really had no idea...
"Plus if you read drug
"Plus if you read drug experiences pages on various boards..."
That's a huge ask for someone not into drugs.
I used to read trip reports
even though I've never taken (non-prescribed) drugs, including alcohol, tobacco, and coffee. (Would you include dark chocolate as a drug? I use that all the time.)
The trip reports can be pretty hilarious.
As someone who had parents
As someone who had parents who were 20 in 1968, I was told that my siblings and I inherited some children's records of Horton Hears a Who and other stories that my parents thought, before they had us, would be wonderful to listen to while high on LSD.
Are you kidding? There's no
Are you kidding? There's no such thing as a tuition reimbursement, whether you leave for disciplinary or health reasons.
At that location, it could be Northeastern, Wentworth, MassArt, NEC, Berklee, even one of the Harvard graduate schools that are in Longwood.
mass college of pharmacy?
those kids always make mistakes in the first semester. one drop off with your mix and everyone’s jumping out windows and having panic attacks. i could be wrong though as I’ve seen plenty of northeastern ladies having complete breaks with reality along huntington ave over the years.
(glad the kids going to be ok)
Never mind that. Just watch
Never mind that. Just watch Dope on Netflix. Scary as shit.
What year is this?
People taking acid and jumping out windows? Man, that was corny even in the 60s.
Any of them wearing masks?
Also, how can you trip without knowing one person is gonna sit out this one to babysit?
Break out your pitch Forks.......
My kid tried to save his life. She is a neighbor and heard a scream and went to check it out. He was on his way out and she caught him and held his legs. She let him go and he jumped anyway. Two people, alone in their home, took LSD unsupervised and it didn't go well. My daughter saved him once but he had his heart set on it. Stop the speculations, especially when something tragic happens, you post public statments smearing people while being ignorant to the facts is racist behavior stop acting like it's 16th century New England. Adam you shouldn't allow comments on posts that aren't clear on the details, look at the way these people pulled out their pitch forks, zero empathy for any one involved. NO ONE EVER READS THE REDACTED VERSION.
Is literally across the street from where I work. Through some arcane Boston address system the location is not actually on Huntington Avenue but up a side street from it. Anyhow turns out this is a hilly area and the rear of the buildings are actually built up higher than street level. So cut off say five or ten feet from the estimates I've seen here. Still it's amazing he survived.
