Downtown Crossing CharlieCard store reopens Tuesday

The MBTA said today it's reopening the CharlieCard store at Downtown Crossing on Tuesday, several months after it was shut due to Covid-19 concerns.

The fully accessible store will be open for in-person transactions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The CharlieCard Store will remain closed on Mondays.

The T says it's added a new ventilation system and installed protective barriers to try to keep both customers and workers safe. The store will also have hand sanitizers in place and has put down floor graphics to remind customers to keep their distance from each other.

To enforce the no mask rules and safe distancing rules or the store will be shut down within a week.

Now seniors and persons with disabilities can get their CharlieCards properly replaced. The qustion is, why didn't they open sooner? Was it the small space that made the 6 foot rule impossible to enforce? I mean, the standard of social distancing is 6 feet AND a mask, and the small space they have is about the only thing I could think of that could make that difficult there.
