One dumpster fire isn't enough to define 2020

Dumpster fires behind Fenway Target

BC captured the non-metaphorical flames rising from two dumpsters behind the Target on Boylston Street in the Fenway around 2:30 this afternoon.

Ng captured the bird's eye view of the twin fires:

Dumpster fires - a sure sign of urban blight...wonder what John Henry has to say about something like this happening in his neighborhood?

That area is the opposite of urban blight. Have you been there lately @hollydollydoo?

@Don't Panic - I think you missed my point. Yes, the area has been brought upscale, but these types of fires are typical of urban blight. I remember seeing these fires down in DC, while riding across town. In spite of all the nice brewpubs and high-rise apartments, these fires are a reminder of how even the nicest urban areas can be affected by blight.

Just saying...

So anything bad that happens in an urban area is immediately blight now? Good grief, I'd love to know what areas aren't affected by blight, if a single trash fire is enough to qualify.

I've lived in Boston most of my life, been through the rough areas at all hours (and lived to tell about it), and this is the first time I've seen something like this.

By your definition most suburbs are blighted? Bike around the 'burbs a bit and you will see plenty of abandoned cars, tire dumps, TVs "dropped off" behind businesses, etc.

Example from 2017.

And I'm not sure I'd call the Back Bay blighted even if somebody did set dumpsters on fire there earlier this year.

Adam, you misspelled dumpster. It's T-R-U-M-P.
