Why your train couldn't depart: Red Line delayed by shopping cart

Yes, it's come to this: Around 9 p.m., the MBTA reported delays of up to 15 minutes on the Braintree branch of the Red Line so that workers could remove a shopping car from the tracks at North Quincy.

Do union rules prohibit a driver from hopping out and pushing the cart aside?

OSHA doesn't have jurisdiction over public sector workers.
But, yeah, there are a lot of reasons to not get out and clear the cart - the third rail, the train setting off on a solo journey, etc.

I'm curious if drivers
are properly trained on track hazards and whatnot. There might also be reasons to keep the cab staffed at all times.

Whoever did this is must be on T-TV. Once the saboteur is identified what crime can he be charged with?
