Yes, it's come to this: Around 9 p.m., the MBTA reported delays of up to 15 minutes on the Braintree branch of the Red Line so that workers could remove a shopping car from the tracks at North Quincy.

McGruff The Crime Dog?
Do union rules prohibit a driver from hopping out and pushing the cart aside?
That would be a 3 min delay, not a 15.
How about OSHA rules?
OSHA doesn't have jurisdiction over public sector workers.
But, yeah, there are a lot of reasons to not get out and clear the cart - the third rail, the train setting off on a solo journey, etc.
...the train setting off on a solo journey, etc.
oh, c'mon - how likely is that? 8-)
Like onto the adjacent track? Carts are heavy. Should the driver use the third rail as leverage?
are properly trained on track hazards and whatnot. There might also be reasons to keep the cab staffed at all times.
Whatever could go wrong?
Work harder, not smarter.
Whoever did this is must be on T-TV. Once the saboteur is identified what crime can he be charged with?
which store's shopping cart was it.
Was it full of leaves?
