A union thugs wet dream.

Which is to choose someone who wants to shut down a department and appoint someone with no experience in that field. Yes, we need more malicious neglect in our Cabinet positions.

Where a labor sec speaks for all workers not just the minority in unions.
Marty would always side with unions in my opinion, it's in his DNA

up
Voting closed 0

As opposed to one who's actively trying to screw all workers on behalf of shareholder value and the Papa Johns of the world. Call me crazy.

up
Voting closed 0

unions, which represent labor, have been recast as oppressive to the same. corporate mythology is really strong lol

up
Voting closed 0

Especially if unions have government taking their side against non union employers.
Prevailing wage laws for example..

A primer: When the Unions are fully employed (like they have been for the last 10 years) some of what would normally be "Union" work falls to non-union shops. Prevailing wage laws mean that our wages sometimes triple. It's the law that you now have to be paid as a Union member (oh, how workers hate That).

I once worked for a shop that demanded we start work a half-hour early (6:30) and we had to be on a ladder and working at 6:45. No more meet at the trailer at 7:00 w coffee and slowly starting the day. 8 hour day is now 8.5, no extra money. If you didn't like it you got sent to another job, which did not pay you 3x your normal wage. Bosses are the ones who hate PW laws. Who are you speaking for again?

up
Voting closed 0

Who are you speaking for?
Prevailing wage laws are unfair to an employer and raises costs to taxpayers for work being done on their behalf. Of course workers like it, people like more money in their paycheck.

What you describe is illegal, I'm talking about a company which employs non union workers ( the majority of workers are non union) paying legal wages and not breaking labor laws having to bid higher for a job because the government says so. The system is geared to advantage unions .

up
Voting closed 0

It's also pervasive, and companies such as Amazon and Walmart have been sued over it. "Unfair to employers" is a ridiculous thing to say. Employers hold all the cards, and if there's unfairness in an employer/employee relationship, it's always in the employer's favor. The single most effective counter to that power imbalance is unionization, and all the people who complain that "unions are bad" have been drinking the corporate kool-ade.

up
Voting closed 0

By drinking corporate koolaid if I have a different opinion? Okie Dokie. I have no reply to that.

While you are openly advocating for employers, and scoffing at paying a decent wage. You should show this to your boss, it will get you a nice pat on the head.

That isn't true and I have no problem with employees joining unions, but the ones who don't should have a place at the table when dealing with Government contracts.
Non union workers are not just the majority they are the vast majority .
If I were to put a new roof on my house should I insist one company has to pay the same wages as their competitors who have a union?
The government does and I think it's wrong,
causing jobs to cost taxpayers more than they have to.

He's not particularly suited for the job but it will get him out of Boston and open the door for one of the better candidates for Mayor.

up
Voting closed 0

Oh look! My kids came into the room during a zoom call. How cute!

I take the T. How cute!

I can't vote in this affair but please, please, people of Can't Afford Cambridge, just remember, the City of Boston is a much bigger place than just JP and pockets of Roslindale.

The suburban Chicago person may have a bigger hill to climb than she thinks.

Can somebody translate this into meaningful sentences?

up
Voting closed 0

That's all.

up
Voting closed 0

but if you see a guy cranking one out to the Dapper memorial at the Ros KoC, that's probably John.

up
Voting closed 0

Hate to spoil your worldview but I never liked the guy.

His note taking at the Maplethorpe exposition and his trying to ban the Last Temptation of Christ was idiotic and pathetic.

up
Voting closed 0

to read anything John writes in the voice of Andy Rooney upon discovering that sales tax isn't included in the advertised price.

up

I will take them under advisement.

up

is that he can make such idiotic sport regarding Councilor Wu and her social media.

Have you ever taken a gander at the pandering, insanely insipid social media activities of the Ice Cream Councillor, the execrable Matt O'Malley, boyo? Yah?

Just look at the (nonexistent) southbound bus lane on Washington Street in Roslindale, which the city promised for "Spring 2019".

So much for her transportation "advocacy".

Haters got to hate

up
Voting closed 0

He doesn't like

A) The councilor using her position to be a role model to working women with children and, yes, maybe getting some votes because she's so damn relatable. Horrors!
B) The councilor promoting and pushing for improvements of an important city service.
C) That the councilor made the mistake of not being born in the bleachers of Fenway Park (even though this old man apparently no longer lives in the city, so I guess he should also be mad at himself?! This one's hard to parse, to be honest)

up
Voting closed 0

Apparently we're also supposed to be angry that someone would use modern-day technology to communicate with her constituents instead of, I don't know, hiring town criers or printing broadsides, I guess.

my dude i have a pamphlet to show you extolling the unfairness of the tax on tea levied by the crown on the commonwealth

up

So I have no idea what she posts on Instagram. Nor do I care.

up
Voting closed 0

did Wu like, kick your dog or something?

up
Voting closed 0

She takes the T to get to work?! Instead of being driven around in an Escalade? How dare she!

up

you might have had to take a napkin to the spittle running down the sides of his mouth

I'm misogynist, ageist, AND racist.

I swear I hit that 'T' first time around! Fixed.

Tea is no substitute for coffee when you need to get stuff done first thing in the morning.

up

Can't blame the lack of caffeine this time, though; had already downed a full mug o' coffee goodness.

Bashing that delete key too hard all the time, senor Gaffinchez?

up

The T got tossed in the harbor.

Putting the city in the hands of the current city council president is a terrifying idea.

Same goes if either of the announced candidates win next November.

up
Voting closed 0

Scared of Kim Janey because she's black and from Roxbury?

up
Voting closed 0

And you know it! And because you can’t defend her craziness, you jump right to calling someone racist.

It’s lazy and old!

up
Voting closed 0

that is all.

up
Voting closed 0

Boston’s gain is America’s loss.

up
Voting closed 0

The City Council President (Kim Janey) becomes the new mayor though the end of 2021, if Walsh departs early. That would give Janey a huge advantage in getting reelected Mayor in November.

Boston really ought to hold a special election in that situation. That's how it works when a district Councilor doesn't finish their term. Anointing an accidental mayor for life is not good.

up
Voting closed 0

That’s how Menino got started!

up
Voting closed 0

Everyone seemed content with Menino

up
Voting closed 0

Your grievance is with the electorate.

up
Voting closed 0

Thanks to stupid rules of ascension, we got stuck with Althea Garrison as an accidental City Councillor when Ayanna Pressley moved to DC. We should have prompt special elections for important vacancies like mayor, and leave unimportant offices like city councillor unfilled until the next scheduled election.

up
Voting closed 0

Althea Garrison did receive the most votes for At Large Councilor for that term, so it was reasonable she got the spot. Following that model, if anyone should fill out Walsh's term, it should be Tito. In 2017 he beat out all other challengers in the primary election.

up

She had the highest total among the losers,
yes, but she wasn't the choice of the voters, and she was once again rejected the next go round. After which she promptly ran for yet another office last week, and lost again. I'm hopeful she will find happiness and fulfillment in the private sector, but I expect we will see her on the next ballot.

Wait for Warren to get the call, she's done nothing for MA except use it to further her career. Bye Karen!

"...it's against the law. It shouldn't happen," said Marty Walsh, the legislator from Dorchester.

Did the city look into it?

up

Just no. We had enough corruption for the last 4 years.

Telling people to calm down is actually anxiety and anger inducing to many people.

Even police are told this:

Page 9

Voters just dealt with a stress inducing election. Now they're about to see who's going to be put in a national spotlight, and might be agitated at who gets cabinet positions. Being dismissive of their feelings by suggesting that they calm down isn't going to help.

up
Voting closed 0

I’m commenting on a story about possible cabinet picks, emphasizing that with raw odds we are talking a 20% chance of Walsh not being mayor in 6 months, and you are seriously comparing my comment to downplaying sexual harassment and police responding to an incident?

up
Voting closed 0

Marty is by far the least qualified of the candidates for that position.
