It's beyond disgusting--and incredible that there are so many irresponsible people who really don't give a shit that other people get screwed as a result of having such a laissez-faire attitude towards the Covid-19 pandemic. Even many people who purport to despise Donald Trump have been encouraged to act like him, if one gets the drift. The person on the link who said "Just because people can gather doesn't mean they should." was 100% right on their money. What was also interesting is that none of those fuckers were wearing masks, either.

People like the ones who gathered in the Churches in Woburn for Christmas Eve Services are the reason that Covid-19 is running so rampant and out of control here in the United States. To all the irresponsible people out and around, wherever and who they may be, I say thanks a big steaming, stinking pantload for screwing over everybody else who abides by the necessary rules for mask wearing and social distancing, and the rules against not wearing masks and having large gatherings of people.

I'd love to see you riding the train every day like I have to. You'd lose it.

the idea is that people who can stay home do so, to protect people like you who have to go out and about

The mask requirement clearly isn’t working.

The T should remove the top 4 inches of every bus and train window.

I had to take the train one day only this pandemic and it was so bad I had to bail as I felt like an Allstonian in a bedbug factory [that's where they come from, right?].

On the Green Line trolley the person across from me kept removing their mask to drink coffee.
A couple got on wearing masks improperly, with their noses in the open, and for some reason kept walking up and down the length of the train car.

One of the couple started coughing repeatedly.

And with that I was out at the next stop and forced to walk home in the cold.

Just don't remind me of this. I have to go into my office on occasion for the stuff I just cannot do remotely, so I ride the T.

So here I am using sanitizer like its hand lotion, wearing my sunglasses (eye shield) and my KN95 masks I bought specifically to wear when riding the T (or being enclosed spaces for > 5 minutes)..

Yet I see maskless people or the 'masknose' people. My favorite was the lady who took off her mask to put on make up one day on the Red Line a few weeks ago. In my head I was like... "doing your make up now so you look good for the attending ICU doctor later?"

I get angry every time I ride now at how dumb people are.

Its not even the T, its everywhere. I see gaggles of people near city hall.. NEAR THE TESTING TENT. Just all hanging out, maskless.. no distancing. *smh*

It's like having a smoking room at a cancer treatment center.

You might want to pump the brakes a bit before you Storrow that truck.

Go back.
Watch the video again.

The people in the congregation are wearing masks.
The musicians in the background are wearing masks.
The musicians & worship leaders in the foreground aren't wearing masks because they're speaking and singing. They're not perfect by any means but they're mostly well-spaced from each other.

So if they need to take the mask off to sing and speak, that is NOT wearing a mask. There are these things called microphones if they need to amplify.

on another note, I think anyone on the train not wearing the mask properly should be charged with reckless endangerment like a drunk driver. It is a choice and it should be enforced.

Amongst typical behavior, the riskiest behavior indoors in a church is playing brass or woodwind instruments. The second riskiest? Singing. The third riskiest? Preaching.

The religious spirit of Christmas ain't giving gifts -- including the gift of Covid.

The church leaders made a terrible decision that hurt their own congregation, having access to enough good information to do better. A little humility would have gone a long way.

that are vastly more likely to spread COVID-19 than just, you know, breathing.

There was a case much earlier in the pandemic of choir practice in a church. They were all "distanced" but were indoors and belting out those aerosols. A goodly number of them caught it and at least one died.

and ironic to see all the people who've had their heads buried in their phones and otherwise preoccupied with themselves for the last couple decades, who have now come to the sudden realization that there are lots of self centered people in the world.

Heart-breaking and disgusting, imho. Self-induced heartbreak affects tons of other people, too.

This is the least surprising thing ever. Jesus freaks have been spreading death and disease for centuries.

Tax the churches.

Hell ya Zip. Carlin was spot on. On so many things. My favorite is Carlin on Euphamisms.

It seem that everyone here hates Christians. Ignore the flaws in people, do y’all actually understand the faith?

up

That's the problem.

Just holding a mirror up to the "christians" and If you don't like what you see then the hatred isn't coming from outside the group.

Serious question -- how can you claim that anyone in that church, minister or parishioner, understands the faith?

Nothing in the New Testament requires making a joyful noise on Christmas in a large group when at risk of spreading a pandemic. Plenty of NT scripture calls for humility, for worshiping in private, and for sacrificing for others.

It's not hating Christians to be upset when they do something stupid that negatively affects everyone else. And it's not necessary for we'all* to actually understand the faith to recognize it as a faulty system of thought.

* When did Dorchesterians start saying y'all? My guess is never.

At least Dot didn’t say it with a Spanish accent.

Dorchester is 35% Black, and "y'all" is a standard fixture of AAVE. So I'm not sure why you think it would be unusual for Dorcehesterians (?) to use the word.

It’s not about hating Christmas it’s about staying home during covid. I think we’ve all learned that the church building isn’t a sacred place anymore anyways. My childhood church is a bunch condos today.

My understanding, of my faith, is that I should care for the well being of our neighbors and be concerned when they act in ways that can harm themselves and others.

Straight to "hating Christians".

Really.

Can I pound some nails into that My Own Personal Cross for you? You sound like friggin Morrisey with that dominant religion victim complex, dear.

I think what we see here is "love the sinner but HATE THE STUPIDITY".

Many atheists don't understand the role faith plays in many peoples' lives, regardless of religion. If you understand why people, globally and historically, will suffer actual martyrdom for their faith, their gathering despite the risk of disease is not surprising. Christians get the brunt of it here because it's less politically correct to hate on orthodox Jews or Muslims, but I don't think the commentariat is really any more considerate of (for example), Muslims in Indonesia or Pakistan refusing immunization because of the halal status of vaccines.

As a (non-practicing, granted) member of a religion that has been, in your words, been "martyred" for more than 2,000 years, and in numbers that are far beyond the pale, first, you don't understand the meaning of the word, especially not in the American context. Yes, Christians have died because of their faith. But I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest this is not an issue in 2020 in the US, which is what we're talking about here. Sorry, there is no war on Christmas.

Second, the issue at hand is not vaccines, but practices that can lead to people getting infected and dying, something we will have to consider until we get to universal vaccination, which we're nowhere near (but speaking of which, Pakistanis might have reason to be suspicious of Western vaccines that have nothing to do with their religion).

... the role religion plays in the lives of some religious. And the role it plays in their own.

In your rush to throw your pity party, you are overlooking the extremely privileged position that Christians have in American society. It is indisputable.

Lol the kind of people who can't bear to suffer one Christmas at home with God (because he's everywhere, right? or does he only live in the Church??) instead of out in public showing what good Christians they are to all their neighbors, are not the kind of people who would have martyred themselves. Maybe Atheists are sick of these people because we can read the same book you all profess to follow and see the hypocrisy right before our eyes:

"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward."

I see a lot of anger at people who, against widely publicized medical advice, in the middle of a respiratory pandemic, decided to gather in a large crowd indoors, with people singing and speaking while not wearing masks.

I think the same anger would hold irrespective of whether the gathering was a religious service at a church, mosque, or synagogue, or whether it was karaoke night at a bar.

While there is a sizable contingent of commenters here who indeed hate Christians (Kinopio), this time there seems to be distain with the fact that this church (out of hundreds of churches in the area that held services) is a COVID cluster.

Well, that and the one person who commented on the video without watching it.

I feel sorry for the grocery store workers where these people shop. Weird not to care abour your fellow human beings and those in your community, all while being 'virtuous.'

And grocery store workers should be on the first list to get vaccine but they’re not.
