Live Boston reports that firefighters responding to a report of an outdoor trash fire on on Edgewater Drive between Topalian and Mattakeeset streets around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday instead found a woman fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters summoned EMS and quickly doused the fire. The woman was brought to a local hospital with third-degree burns covering most of her body. Because of the severity of her injuries, the BPD homicide unit was called in and is now investigating the incident.

What could cause someone to do this to another person?

Which is what investigations are for.

It is sadly not uncommon for people without housing to accidently set themselves on fire just trying to stay warm.

Such a horrible situation, either way.

Please don't blame the victim till the facts are known.

Okay. Whatever.

We don't know whether this was an accident (brought on by extreme necessity of having a nearby open flame to stay warm) or a homocidal act. But stating that many such situations are not homocidal acts and arise from the extreme situations that America expects people without homes to deal with is hardly "blaming the victim".

It is merely stating the obvious.

This is beyond sad and brings tears to my eyes thinking whoever did this horrific crime is just walking around like nothing. If you saw something, know something say something!

Hopefully that investigation won't conclude attempted murder. God help this woman, her life situation. Terrible

And horrifying. If she survives, she’ll never recover from this. Sending this poor women strength.

... who is the big shot who can’t be bothered to mask up for his otherwise considerate colleagues?

I hope this woman survives but it doesn’t seem she will not be living without terrible pain if she does. I hope they catch the sadist or sadists who did this to her.

Thanks for directing me to that website. The story titled “Staying in the fight” regarding the violent protest in may is terrifying.

Yeah it's pretty terrifying that the author of that gets a gun and the permission to kill people.

Burning a body can be an attempt to destroy evidence linking someone to a crime. It was tried a while back

If the cops solve only one crime this year I hope it's this one. Garbage like the person or person's who did this are what prisons were invented for.

I totally agree I hope and sure they will solve this horrific crime. how can you treat a person like that this woman no one deserves to be treated like a piece of trash. She s somebody's mother somebody's child. This I'm sure was a personal not random.

Sickening....hope they find the trash and put them away for good. According to Officer Broderick of BPD the poor woman was set on fire and dumped out of a car.
