Warren endorses Wu

Sen. Elizabeth Warren today endorsed City Councilor Michelle Wu for mayor in the fall, and maybe also the spring, elections.

I’ve been proud to fight alongside Michelle over the last 7 years. She gets out and does the work that needs to be done to make a difference in people's lives. I’m thrilled to get on board the @wutrain and endorse her run for Mayor of Boston.

Warren does not live in Boston.

To date, only Councilor Andrea Campbell (Dorchester, Mattapan, Roslindale) has formally said she is also running for mayor, although the field could widen with Mayor Walsh set to become federal labor secretary. City Councilor and current Council President Kim Janey (Roxbury) will become mayor on Walsh's resignation.

If Walsh leaves before March 5, the city would have to a special election to fill his seat until the fall election, under a schedule set by the city charter, although City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo will seek permission from the state legislature to eliminate a potential special election.

Why is this Cambridge resident getting involved with Boston politics?

For the same reason that Presidents often endorse candidates in state races.

The million dollar question is when will Schumer schedule a confirmation hearing for Walsh.
Some nominations get confirmed right after inauguration. Some nominations don't get confirmed until April.

The best thing Warren could do for Wu is not endorse Wu, but push Schumer to schedule an early confirmation for Walsh.

Why not express her support now on both fronts--endorse Wu and encourage a speedy confirmation?

I think the senate has other things on its mind right now after their Come to Jesus team building session in the senate basement on Wednesday.

The story contradicts you. If the Senate has other things on its mind, then Warren would not be endorsing Wu today.

...because actually scheduling confirmation hearings, when the question of impeachment is still up in the air, is the same thing as endorsing a nominee, which anyone can do at any time.

You're probably unaware of this, but an impeachment trial in the Senate supersedes all other business. That includes confirmation hearings. FYI.

to vote for Andrea Campbell. Andrea has a story just as compelling as anyone else, an educational background as good as it gets, and she is not a carpetbagger.

for endorsements.

I'm not thrilled about this because Michelle We is either dangerously naive about government or actively lying to us. She has some great positions but some of the posturing is really worrisome.

Right now I'm all for Andrea Campbell, but we know there will be new candidates.

So, deal with the fact that people do move into this city and are able to run for office. Will my future grandchildren have been from here sufficiently enough to run for office?

Ok, Scott Brown.

Cool, did they bloody any noses?
Punch any throats?
I always thought politicians were self centered boobs looking for power and prestige.
I guess it's a bare knuckles endeavor and not for the squeamish.

He seems unable to realize that English words sometimes have more than one meaning depending on their context.

"I always thought politicians were self centered boobs looking for power and prestige."

Because those are the kind of politicians that appeal to you.

There are others, however, who toil diligently for the public good. Elizabeth Warren is an example. You wouldn't understand that, because unselfish motives are beyond your comprehension.

She fought with Wu who represents a one party city in a one party State, that is difficult and I stand corrected...Amen.

You are the one who seems like you are clutching pearls after reading my comment about Sen. Warrens use of the word fight. Lighten up. Did my comment personally offend you?

Most presidents want to confirm their cabinets quickly so they can start getting stuff done. With Democrats in control of the house and senate there will be few roadblocks to quick confirmations. If Biden wants to appoint Walsh quickly then he will.

In 2017 Republicans controlled the Senate. Agriculture and Labor appointments both didn't happen until April. Neither was really controversial.

The "acting" secretary (usually the deputy secretary) who takes over until the new secretary is confirmed, still serves at the pleasure of the President and tends to steer towards the new President's vision and priorities.

.....the reason the Labor Secretary position was left unconfirmed was because Trump's first nominee, former Carl's Jr/Hardee's CEO Andy Puzder, ran into a bunch of issues and ended up withdrawing (spousal abuse allegations, which were later recanted; his stance on replacing human workers with robots, etc.)

It's common knowledge that DJT didn't really care about appointments and left many appointments vacant way past April. Biden cares and Marty's will get done quickly if that's what Biden wants.

History is happening in Boston as Kim Janey assumes the mayor's office. Quite a reckoning for city like Boston with a history of tumultuous race relations. Why must Warren diminsh Janey's moment? Don't undermine Janey's mayorship by endorsing someone else before she's even had a chance to enter her new office.

Your position is that Michelle Wu is a 53 year old white Irish male establishment politician.
