I spent too long looking at that before realizing what it actually is.

I was actually thinking what a great photo of a broken window it was before I read the caption.

Michael Tzukran took a picture of ISS taking a picture of Boston.

For some reason, I-93 north of Boston, and the Mass. Pike to the west, show up very clearly, while I-93 south, Route 2. and Route 128 are almost impossible to find. Perhaps something to do with the streetlights used by MassDOT on those roads?

Of course, US 1 in Saugus is visible from lights in all the parking lots.

It's true that 93 South is invisible between Braintree Split in Quincy and Rt 138 in Canton, altho' there's no mistaking Ricciutti Drive in Quincy and University Place in Westwood

makes me realize how bright those new LED streetlights are.

One of the benefits of LED streetlights is that they are supposed to be directing their light directionally, so downward, instead of wasting light and creating a nuisance above them.

I find that LED streetlights shine sideways a LOT more than the older lights. The walls of buildings are glaringly lit up. That can't help with sky light pollution.

No streetlight shines directly up, except those stupid acorn fake gas lamps which shine every direction *except* down. They should be banned I don't know what they're even trying to imitate, since we have real gas lamps in some Boston neighborhoods and they look nothing like that.

I don't know where you picked up that tidbit, but alas, not so.

Do the folks at Boston City Archives need help with this? I think I can see to the left the top of Marty Walsh's head at a press conference. Boston during a pandemic in 2020? Just a guess.

Is that huge white blob the Encore casino?

Disgusting if so.

The casino is next to the giant awful mall in everett with the Target. Also the Best Buy and the development at Wellington Circle.

Creates an orange glow in the sky for I would estimate a t least a half mile all around. It is disgusting to know how much this place- and others - are ruining the chance for city kids to see the stars.

The main bright blob is definitely the casino. The mall and the Wellington station developments are above and to the right of it.

The other excessively bright areas include Logan Airport, the Conley shipping terminal in Southie (near Castle Island), and the industrial complex along the Fore River in Quincy. New England Produce Center in Everett/Chelsea is also easily distinguished -- two parallel lines below and to the right of the casino.

The huge white blob does appear to be the casino, with the Target shopping center the slightly less bright blob above and to the right. I wonder how much floodlighting/spotlighting is in the environmental permits for the casino?
The other brightest large spots are Logan Airport, Conley Terminal, and a spot in the lower left quadrant which is the area of the Quincy Shipyard - but I suspect is more specifically the collective of car/truck dealership and service yards along 53 and the edge of the shipyard (but maybe that's just a quirk on my part)

Weather permitting we have an OK chance Thursday and great chance Friday to take a photo back at them!
