On Saturday, gun-packing drug dealer arrested outside Southampton Street shelter; on Sunday, man stabbed there

Seized drugs and gun

Seized drugs, scale, gun and $3,509 in cash.

Boston Police report arresting a Lowell man and seizing his mobile drugstore outside the city's Southampton Street shelter around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Police report seizing "a loaded .40 caliber Taurus handgun equipped with a laser sight, over 500 pills or pieces of alprazolam, 48 suboxone strips, several plastic bags containing large amounts of fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana."

Jay Candelario, 40, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, trafficking Class A and Class B drugs and possession of Class C and Class D drugs with intent to distribute, police say.

Live Boston reports that shortly before 6 p.m. on Sunday, police found a man stabbed in the back outside the shelter. Because of the severity of his injuries, the homicide unit was called in, just in case, although he is now expected to recover.

On Jan. 4, a man was stabbed to death outside the shelter, six months after two other men were fatally stabbed, one right outside the shelter, one nearby on Massachusetts Avenue.

On Jan. 17, police arrested a man they say had both a loaded gun and a knife as he sold crack from his motorcycle.

Long Island would be a much safer site for those suffering from addiction.

But right outside the (expletive) shelter? Did this moron think that no police officer would think to look for somebody selling drugs there?

When you are fucked up common sense goes out the window.

New Years Night I had a woman open a window to my condo and scream "Hello Randy, are you there" at 3am in the morning.

She was higher than fuck. What kind of sane person at 3am starts pushing up windows on random houses looking for someone? Someone who wants drugs or is on drugs.

Your windows locked on January 1st?

Also, you think the dealer was on drugs? Isn't the idea not to get high on your own supply?

Remember it was warm Christmas Eve. I opened the windows. One window wasn't locked all the way.

Regardless, that person also went down my alley and pushed on all the doors and windows they saw.

But remember, some dealers sell to fuel their own habits. So a heroin dealer might be a coke head. It takes a special kind of person to sell special kind of drugs to special kind of people.

Methadone Mile is a containment area where people are allowed to suffer because we do not have the courage to do the right thing by them and our communities. The police are handcuffed and told not to interfere. Harm reduction is the new normal and the bar to hope for recovery is so low that many of the souls who wander the streets from Andrew Square to Nubian Square have no hope. The more suboxone that floods the streets the more methamphetamine flows. Dignity and participation in the social contract between fellow humans is an unknown out there. Boston is heading to something akin to Skid Row in LA or Seattle or Portland through their paternalism for those who suffer mightily.

That's doable. Coats, Sweaters, Shirts and pants. Put the money in the pants.

Good work getting this off the street. I left the south end due to the spread of issues from the Southhampton st. area. Are any mayoral candidates making promises to repair the situation there?
