Election roundup: Another candidate announces run for mayor; that makes seven now

Bianchi

Michael Bianchi of Brighton filed papers with the state campaign office this week to run for Boston mayor this fall.

His platform calls for bringing Boston together, but more specifically, it includes dealing with what he says is a mismanaged city budget, bringing art and vocational classes back to schools, increasing other youth-training programs, supporting small businesses and returning happy hours to bars once health conditions permit.

Already running: City Councilors Annissa Essaibi-Geroge, Andrea Campbell and Michelle Wu, state Rep. Jon Santiago, former city economic-development chief John Barros and Dana Depelteau.

City Council President Kim Janey, who will become acting mayor the moment Marty Walsh resigns to go to Washington, has yet to say if she'll be running for re-election as a councilor or to make her mayoral job permanent.

Speaking of Santiago, Sue O'Connell at NECN interviewed him, while fellow state Rep. Aaron Michlewitz of the North End endorsed him.

The Scope introduces us to Nick Vance, who is running for one of the four at-large seats on the city council.

The Scope also talks to Kendra Hicks on her race in District 6 (Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury).

The Appeal answers the question: Why Michelle Wu Wants to Bring a Green New Deal to Boston.

You know, the guy who thought the MBTA was only a downtown Boston issue so not really the mayor's business?

Still running.

Idiot Americans have long been under-represented in the mayor's office here.

Ask yourselves, what does city need in order for us to stop complaining about the same things over and over again? Never mind. Keep it dirty in the water.

Is just looking for the racist vote. Step aside, please. Spoken as an Irish American.

Race shouldn't be an issue, whether someone is running or trying to figure out who to vote for.

That said, who the heck is this guy and why does he think he stands a chance?

I agree your skin color should not depict what your motives are. As a minority who was born and bread in this city I believe Mike Bianchi wants to be our voice. Why does he think he has a chance because WE want a chance, who better to hear us than someone who has lived the same steps we have. Don’t judge a book by the cover but by it’s context!!! #VoteBianchi

Bianchi thinks of his teen years in terms of his pubescence.
A centerpiece of his economic plan is to legalize happy hours.
He quotes vapid inspirational statements from a Harry Potter character on his twitter account.

Thanks. No thanks.

Appears to be a unique candidate...lifelong working class and therefore refreshingly different from the rest of the pack. Not sure what his chances of success in this race might be, but he seems sincere. Hope he can be involved in helping to make the city better for everyone-especially working class and the poor-even if his campaign is not successful.

He uses the word pubescent in the first paragraph of his bio. Magoo thinks pubescent is a lol word. One time many moons ago Magoo was pubescent. Magoo.

I'm Irish American and John Barros has my vote and political donation. A child of immigrants, like me, he has an excellent track record and solid education.

He opened a business on Bowdion St, where I grew up and watched become disinvested. Strong character and drive, what you need in a Mayor!

I’m a POC and I supported Walsh. Sensible working class folk see through the identity politics, no thank you

Michael seems like a decent guy but I looked up his website and I can't find anything specific about what he has done in his life so far or what he intends to do if elected that would make me want to vote for him.

A full page biography that tells me nothing about his background is an excellent way to run as a man of mystery for Mayor.

Based on this dude’s picture I can’t tell if he wants me to vote for him or if he’s about to rob me

Poor man. He was probably trying to sound “eloquent” and that word choice was a failure. It takes courage to jump into a political race that’s filled with Ivy league educated people, though. Maybe there’s something else he can do for the under-represented. Remember the late Mayor Menino referred to himself as a “plain talker” and he certainly made a few grammatical errors!

"A taxi driver who left his door ajar while arguing over a fare in Brighton at 2 a.m. on Nov. 14 had his vehicle stolen by a Brighton man. The driver of the Top Cab vehicle told police that a white man wearing dark clothes drove away in his cab as he argued with a woman who refused to pay her fare.

Using the Top Cab GPS system, police were able to locate the vehicle and the suspect, Michael Bianchi, 47, of 68 Goodenough St., Brighton. Police arrested Bianchi and charged him with auto theft."

Can you cite your source so we can see it for ourselves?

Interesting but probably a different Michael Bianchi? According to the report, the incident happened in 2009 and the suspect was already 47 years old at that time.

Funny thing, candidate Michael Bianchi is a Uhub reader and he just posted this article on his Facebook page along with one of the more flattering comments!

I would personally like to get on and address some of the things being brought up . I would like to clarify that I was never arrested for stealing a taxi cab I am only 32. I want to thank all the people that have looked at my page with an open heart and mind. That understand I have no campaign experience but believe in and love my community. Also my main focus is not to bring back happy hour this was only a solution that has not been mentioned to help restaurants and bars struggling from the effects of covid. I encourage anyone with questions, concerns or even advice to contact me via email or social media platforms. This is a grassroots campaign for the people of Boston and whomever believes in this campaign are looking to do things differently to lead by example and with love!

Check his OCPF filing. Same mutt, same address. Unless they're related!

It was his old man.

If he's Michael J. Bianchi II, then he's named after someone other than his father.

Maybe different middle names?

He did say he would be making a clarification soon.

This is why I naming your child the same exact name as yourself is not exactly smart in the modern age. My father and grandfather have different middle names so you could tell the difference with the initial and my mother chose to move their first name to my middle name so as to not have too many people with the same name running around but we still honored the name.

Just looking at the facts his assertation seem to make sense, if the person in the story was 47 and the person being discussed isn't that old yet then it would stand to reason it is not him.
