Changing times: Hyde Park could get a Starbucks

The Bulletin reports that the River Street mall with the Price Rite and the Burger King at the Hyde Park/Mattapan line, could get a Starbucks and a Planet Fitness.

Developer Todd Finard, who has been trying to fill the space left vacant since he tore down what was left of the old paper mill there in 2007 and 2008, will hold a community meeting on the two possible additions to the Shops at Riverwood at 6 p.m. on March 24.

Just what was not needed, a musical Magoo.

I knew what you meant. Also this would be their second location on River Street, they have one in Mattapan.

Fixed. Also, they recently, finally, opened in Forest Hills.

Can Roslindale be far behind?

Not that I don't think that the goals spelled out by the developer aren't noble, just that it's a Planet Fitness, which is a good but mundane establishment. I don't see many issues with the use, other than possibly parking.

Roslindale is a waste land when it comes to affordable gyms. Advanced Auto Parts next to Dunks in the Sq. would be a solid location for one. Maybe even up on Belgrade by Fallon, it would probably help the other businesses in the area.

They are always busy there, which makes me think a lot of local people and businesses rely on them. Maybe build on top of them?

There is a gym there.

There’s also a gym next to Stop and Shop.

The big question is when the community center will reopen (hint to a registered user in particular.)

Roslindale doesn't need a corporate owned coffee shop. I'm happy supporting local merchants.

Outside of Dunkins and Coffee Break, which is great, but there aren't a lot of other options in HP.

Sometimes when Magoo goes to Starbucks Magoo will order a “small coffee” and Magoo gets corrected by the barista. They will tell Magoo that Magoo wants a “Tall Americano”.

Other times Magoo will order a chicken sandwich and they will tell Magoo that chicken sandwiches are not served. Magoo will respond as follows: pardon Magoo, Magoo was confused and thought Magoo was at Starclucks. Magoo.
