Forest Hills Cemetery begs bird watchers to give a hoot and stay away from area where a pair of great horned owls are nesting

Forest Hills Cemetery says bird watchers flocking there to watch a pair of nesting great horned owls have gotten out of hand and is asking people to stay away from the nesting area, near the "contemporary burial area."

This location within the Cemetery has become a place of constant and unrelenting visitation over the course of the last three weeks.

Well-intentioned birders, nature-lovers, and photographers, through no fault of their own, have blocked roads while attempting to photograph the nest and some have even set up tripods over gravesites. We have received a number of complaints from our families who felt that the gravesites of their loved ones were being disrespected.

Additionally, we have heard from wildlife rehabilitators and folks within the birding community that the constant disruption is detrimental to the owls themselves and often deprives them of precious daytime sleep.

I'm sure the scooter/motorcycles/all-terrain vehicles and drag racing 24-7 in good weather from Morton/Arborway all along Forest Cemetery and Franklin Park isn't helping for ANY living thing's sleep. Forget about 311. It's MassDOT's jurisdiction.

There’s tons of cars IN the cemetery. I was walking there just this week. It’s annoying and dangerous. I’ve seen inebriated drivers smoking weed while driving and tossing out nips.

It’s a damn urban cemetery. Why are people driving in it? Got off your fat lazy ass and walk. Your 2017 Ford Explorer or whatever doesn’t belong mere feet from graves of people born in the 1700s.

imagine the nerve of people trying to visit the graves of a family member and using their car when local gentrifiers want to walk around?

'Sorry grandma, you'll have to walk from the entrance to visit your husband's grave so a JP rich kid can treat the cemetery as a public park.'

Everyone else should be encouraged to walk or use electric gokarts. Much more respectful of eternal peace.

Hopefully you are only this obtuse on the internet and not in real life, but I believe the commenter was complaining about people using a cemetery as a place to drink and smoke weed :

“...inebriated drivers smoking weed while driving and tossing out nips.”

But if intentionally taking a comment out of context and twisting it into a cute, snarky reply to get some UHub likes makes you happy then hopefully you achieved your goal.

Same happened at Mt. Auburn Cemetery abt 5 years ago. Cemetery staff put up yellow caution tape and posted signs to give the owls space, but of course people ducked under the tape, went right up to the tree and started shooting pics using flash. Some idiot visitors would also yell hoot hoot like morons to get the owls to look or open their eyes. I'm not sure if the same is true for owlets, but one of the leading causes of death for bald eaglets is human disturbance which causes eaglets to jump out of the nest and die.

We have a nesting pair a short distance into the woods from our home.

They are huge and get territorial and aggressively violent when they have babies. They totally fucked up our neighbor's kid! He was sledding through their space during nesting season and got whacked.

Everyone in the neighborhood warns anyone cutting through the area to use the trails and avoid going near them, climbing the rocks, etc.
