Some sober reflections on the end of restrictions

Gary Park wants to celebrate the end of Covid-19 requirements today, but can't. The owner of Gary's Liquors on VFW Parkway in West Roxbury writes he will not be uncorking anything tonight:

I was thinking that I should celebrate tonight, but then it hit me. Nearly 18k people in Massachusetts and 600k people in the USA and millions world wide lost their lives to this awful virus. Many are still suffering from side effects, and we all have had our lives turned upside down and inside out.

Today I will think about the Dr.’s and nurses, and all the front line people who worked tirelessly to keep us safe. The scientists who found these miracle vaccines. I will think about all the essential workers who stayed on the job and did what they had to do. I will think about the children who lost over a year of school, friends, sports, social events, and even celebrating their graduations. People who put off weddings, and other celebrations which had an impact on my business.

I will think about all the businesses that suffered, and the ones who are permanently gone.

Do they still have that in-store deli? I used to work nearby about a decade ago and loved getting lunch there. The cheeseburgers in particular were surprisingly great

Getting back to normal is a good thing.

We don't know what the future brings, but in the present time we are verging on herd immunity.

The sight of the Boston Garden in full bloom with humanity literally made me cry. My work on the vaccine roll out is done, and now I see that all the hard work and extra hours my colleagues put in during some of the darkest days of the year have paid off.

Springfield, MA has a vaccination rate closer to Oklahoma than Vermont.

We are not a unified state.

Not my usual gig. I was pinch hitting when the situation was rather slammed. Which means I was effectively working two jobs. I knew what I was in for, but I was willing to do anything that I could to break the back of this fucker.

DPH is extremely well aware of where the holdouts and what the barriers are, and places like Springfield are currently getting a lot of attention, vaccines, and creative ways to get people in the door.

Happy tears and things getting back to normal should be celebrated

"getting back to normal" is not the same as celebrating such a state occurring, and Gary was clearly talking about not wanting to celebrate right now when there is so much suffering to reflect upon.

And I'm saying we can do both... of course he is free to do as he likes

of course he is free to do as he likes

And yet you had to call him out for saying what he felt was appropriate for him, not for you, but for him.

Is calling someone out?

This is s blog where input is appreciated, my input is we can celebrate getting back to normal and reflect on what we've been through..... I was not "calling someone out"
Why is everything online so overly dramatic to some?

"Getting back to normal" is an exhausting expression.

Is another one.

You do seem to have a persistent problem with other people expressing how they feel. I've yet to see anyone saying what they think StillFromDorchester should feel, and yet you can't leave it alone.

The person said getting back to normal is an exhausting term....I'm not mad.
I added my exhaustive term..."you do you". Jeepers, you are the internet argument seeker aren't you?
