Entering one Bay Village cabaret will soon be a bit of a drag without a vax card

Jacques Cabaret announced yesterday the delta variant has made it change its admission policy, starting Aug. 6:

If you would like to be maskless at shows we are asking that you show your vaccination card at the door to receive a stamp (a clear photo on your phone will also suffice). If you do not wish to show your vaccination card or are not vaccinated we will be requiring that you remain masked throughout the night. We will also have masks on hand for anyone who needs or wants one.

We will also have sanitizer available throughout the venue and encourage everyone to use it as much as they’d like.

Considering Ptown.. now Fire Island.. We got a problem in gayville.

And for those who have never been to Jacques, its VERY tiny inside. The show area, everyone is crowded in together. People are very close. Sometimes if its Snatch Game (drag show competition) it is standing room only**

It makes total sense and I applaud Jacques management for doing this.

** pre pandemic

Last time I was there it was mostly full of straight bachelorette parties.

If Jacques passes for "Gayville" now, I'm burning my gay card...:-)

(Not that I was ever that much of a "gay bar" guy, but boy, things are so different now as compared to when I came to Boston in the early 80's for college - Buddies and the 1270 in their heyday, Campus soon to open in Cambridge...way before Club Cafe was a thing...but back then of course Jacques was just an "old guys' club" like Napoleon's, and us young'ens never went there lol. God forbid we should have anything to do with older gay men...now of course we ARE the older gay men...)

Speaking as an old guy, I rejoice that our world is a slightly safer place for you and for subsequent generations of young’uns to be yourselves and offers a few more places for you to be yourselves than it did in 1980.

I support this 100%. No use pretending everything is over when clearly it is not. We've had a fun spring and early summer, but this is the responsible thing to do.

I can't believe that place I still there. I use to go to Jacques in the 70s when Sylvia Sydney ("The Bitch of Boston" a/k/a "The Mess In A Dress") was performing there, whenever I wanted a dose of bad taste.

I like Jaques quite a bit and I respect their concern about their own and their guest's health but I just don't see how the "vaccine passport" system makes sense. The little pieces of paper we're given and promptly pose with a selfie with (or don't depending on who you ask and what kind of tin foil hat you wear) aren't really the same thing as a government issued ID. I've worked in bars for years and kids these days are rolling in with state of the art fake IDs that are nearly impossible to distinguish from valid IDs and, say, I were firmly in the antivax camp (for clarity I'm fully vaxxed and don't understand why you wouldn't be, but I digress) It would be almost no effort at all whatsoever to doctor up a fake card and somehow even less effort to have a picture of one. So unless these "vaccine passports" start being issued as state ID with means to validate their authenticity and real life felony charges for forgery asking for them is nothing more than performative action.

Can someone (fairly easily) forge a vax card? Sure enough. However, something approaching everyone who knows they are asking for proof WILL actually be vaccinated. Is that theater to ask? Not really. It's just making it crystal clear what the expectations are and reminding folks that we're still in a phase where caution is advisable.

If you want to go to Jaques so bad that you gin up a fake VAX card, you have more problems then any ol' virus can ever give you.

If you want to talk about performative action, isn't that what not getting vaccinated is at this point? It's free and ubiquitous and it might save your life. People who aren't doing it are acting out some kind of performance.

I don't imagine many people acting out that anti-vaxx performance with an extra sure I'm vaxxed performance on top of it.

Kids with fake IDs who just can't wait to be 21 aren't running around bragging about their refusal to age.

Good to see Intelligent people in our City of Education.

Sunny Florida now.....there's a different issue.

So glad I dwell here far from the neanderthals.
