Lowell man was hanging out outside a closed Hyde Park supermarket with a shotgun, police say

Boston Police report arresting a man they say was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun in the area of the Shaw's Market, 1477 Hyde Park Ave., late Wednesday night.

Police say somebody called the anonymous tip line to report a guy with a long gun there around 11:20 p.m. - more than two hours after the store had closed. Responding officers found a man there, with a bag, who did not seem to appreciate their arrival. Although he consented to a pat frisk, police say, he "became combative" when they started feeling the bag.

Officers were able to pat frisk the bag and felt an object consistent with the shape of a firearm. Young was placed into custody without further incident.

Officers removed a Stevens model 311, 12-gauge shotgun with an Obliterated Serial Number.

Anthony Young, 41, was charged with possession of a sawed off shotgun and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, police say.

Innocent, etc.

What, Now I have to wear a mask and pack heat when I go pick up my plantains? This is a very good store and hope it doesn’t scare people away.

As noted in the post, the incident was at 11:20 p.m., more than two hours after the store had closed for the night. Not much goes on in that stretch of Hyde Park Avenue that late except for the odd parking-lot fight at Dino's Bar and Grill, um, the Cavan.

That looks like at least one life saved.

What time should we expect to find Mr Young back out on our streets doing the same thing or worse?

In MA, it's strict gun laws for law-abiding citizens bit a slap on the wrist for actual gun criminals....and the beat goes on.
