Cambridge Police report the bomb squad responded to the Johnston Gate on Mass. Ave. around midnight yesterday on a report of a strange sound coming from a trash can there.

Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter and conducted an investigation that was determined to be a wrist-watch alarm sounding. The watch was removed and disposed of.

Chucked back in the same trash can? Did they turn off all the other alarms first? :-)

Is there any evidence that a beeping noise means there's more likely to be a bomb than a trash can without a beeping noise?

Bombs *always* advertise themselves by beeping!

Yeesh!

I wish the authorities would haul away trucks that beep outside my window at 6 am.

to have big glowing numbers with exactly how much time is left, and to speed up the beeping as it gets closer to detonation. We should all be thankful to terrorists for really thinking through their user-design!

Good trash picking anywhere there are residents with best financial status. And remember, there are plenty of hood geniuses with shops everywhere who can clear the data and make brand new.

If it was a Casio F-91W watch it may have been a test run.
