Annissa Essaibi George for governor?

Update: Mahty, too.

Gin Dumcius, managing editor at the Dorchester Reporter, writes the Boston City Councilor for Another Month, who lost pretty badly to Michelle Wu for mayor a few weeks ago, is looking at a brighter future on the other side of the Charles and south of the Neponset.

Her message is very appealing to center and center-left constituencies. That will play very well outside the city. Healey is the elephant in the room, though. It is hard to see anyone beating her in a primary.

You need experience at the state government level.

You need to know where Worcester, Lowell, Springfield, Adams and North Adams, Lawrence, New Bedford, Fall River, Attleboro, Amherst, Northampton, Barnstable, Provincetown, Gloucester, Oak Bluffs, etc. are on a map and be willing to travel to those places and their surrounding towns once in a while.

And Romney? Got it.

Yeah, her I GREW UP IN BAHSTON AND NEVER DID LEAVE THE CITY LIMITS LIKE CERTAIN OUTSIDERS isn't going to play well in the western suburbs. The only people that folks out west hate more than rich obnoxious yuppie gentrifiers living in Boston is the lifelong townies living in boston who truly think it's the center of the universe.

They aren’t from Boston. They are outsiders.
Hell, Springfield is practically Chicago!

Also Shamesbury, Methel, and Unstable. (last one, first syllable accented, rhymes with Barnstable)

I think that's the closest town.

That’s the campaign. Willie Gross fills out the ticket as Lt. Gov.

I’m not saying that this will actually happen, but I would bet someone is taking this angle very seriously.

Can’t be a worse candidate than the last democrat…. Jay….umm, oh yeah Gonzalez. Anyone remember him?

AEG may have been beaten two to one in the mayoral race as a sitting council member but she raised almost the same as Wu, meaning that she's probably looking at the fundraising numbers outside the city while possibly envisioning Boston as hers at least in a primary. Not a bad bet, imho, but she'd be up against statewide Dems and her messaging fell very flat with voters so she's going to need to run a different campaign.

According to the Boston 2021 elections results map, AEG won those more conservative precincts and had support amongst the Blue-Dog electorate and probably some of the rabid flag-truck peoples as well, so I wouldn't be surprised at her campaign having a real centrist position which would help her against more progressive Democrats. Too soon to say anything about possible Republican contenders but I doubt they'll be able to hold on to the office.

So AEG, personally yeah no, but why waste the name recognition at this time?

decides to leave Labor and run? Or is there a better statewide candidate?

Marty makes his sole policy to finally getting Jonathan Richman's Roadrunner as the state song.

Once accomplishing that goal, he resigns.

He'll poll well in Ireland, if memory serves, but I can't see him having much appeal in the rest of the state.

Nope.. why?

Two words: Mass & Cass

Do we want this leadership in the Gov's office? I don't... I don't want someone who is just going to scoop up belongings of homeless people at 6am with a garbage truck.. because he can. That was a Menino attitude, and one I don't want to see in politics again. (I'll be disappointed as always, cuz it will tho)

Then of course his Union crap he did.

Tbh its this stuff that he is going to have to answer for as DOL, let alone if he runs for Gov here.

My Prediction: We'll end up with another republican, providing that they can cough up a candidate other than Diehl.

Democrats, can't think of anyone who would want the job, except maybe Maura and Joe Curtatone, but both have jobs (Curtatone just got a new one!) and don't think either one wants to leave just yet.

The Gov's job in this state is meh.. pol's here look at seats in DC for the next level up. Not to stay stagnant in state government.

Baker, and to a much lesser extent, Polito (let's not forget what she stood for before Baker picked her) are pretty much all that's left of the traditional Massachusetts wing of the Republican party.

So now we have Jim Lyons, that racist who ran for the Boston City Council and the guy selling Brandon merch out of a trailer on Rte. 1 in Norwood. Oh, and their boy Geoff Diehl.

He'll win the primary and then lose, incredibly badly, to whoever the Democrats put up, even if they decide to have fun and put up a sack of soggy, sprouting onions.

Ah, but what if Essaibi George runs as an independent? Her best bud Jim Davis over at New Balance can raise millions for her, she knows how to get just angry enough at Today's Problems without coming across as crazed, she's not stupid and she can put a pox on both the Democrats and the Lunatic Fringe Wrapped in a Blue Stripe Flag the Republicans have become.

He'd be more likely to fund Diehl not AEG since his odds would go up with Diehl against a real progressive candidate.

Barring the Democrats nominating a convicted murderer, I just don't think Geoff Diehl is going to be our next governor. Even a Trump supporter like Davis can see that.

In contrast, Davis has already shown a willingness to dump millions on Essaibi George.

But I think Davis would back him for the chance that it could happen rather than either splitting his money between the two of them or just backing AEG in a gubernatorial race.

If so, I'd vote for the murderer.

For someone who ran on a platform with a foundation based on his own recovery, he did a lot of damage with his passive-aggressive stance on harm reduction services. His personal philosophy around recovery doesn't mesh well with the realities of addiction treatment, and by proxy homelessness services, in our current era of Meth ave. and Melnea Crack. He talks down about suboxone and methadone, despite there being no other viable alternatives the vast majority of the time, since we have a woefully under resourced and insanely bureaucratic landscape of treatment programs, silo'd by a mixture of service providers that span everything from religious organizations, to private pray for-profit recovery programs, to underfunded public services, and unregulated recovery housing.

Martin closed the long island bridge, and when organizations like Healthcare for the Homeless, St. Francis house, Pine street, and other established organizations scrambled to find beds for the displaced shelter and treatment residents, Walsh skipped out on strategy meetings because he was conveniently meeting to discuss Boston 2024, with it's desire to turn Long Island into athlete housing which would then be flipping to big money real-estate development.

When the plan backfired, we got stuck with a stop-gap solution in the Southampton St Shelter as the new jumping off point to the greater Newmarket square commercial district. All of this as we watched fentanyl run through the homeless community at an absurd rate. Now, it's meth that's being pumped into the area, increasing the decay.

So no.... Martin had his chance to do right by those needing pathways to recovery, Let's look elsewhere because his attitude sucks and he's not an honest dude.

Sorry marty, but you really fucked people over man, and we're here trying to clean up the mess against what essentially amounts to chemical warfare from the cartels and their international backers....

I won't refute much of what you said but

Martin closed the long island bridge

The bridge failed a structural inspection and had to be closed. It should not have been allowed to fall into such disrepair, but by the time Walsh took office that year, it was probably too far gone to be repaired. Keeping the bridge open in a documented hazardous condition would have been negligent.

I drove across that bridge many times to do commitments out at the old Andrew House and Bridge to Recovery programs so I'm definitely aware of how desperately it needed to be repaired and updated. I was aware that it was a known issue, but the impression I got was that there wasn't any new information that we suddenly became aware of in October of 2014... that it was just decided to take action and close it, suddenly. I was working for BHCHP in the Saint Francis House clinic at the time, and no one got any heads up that this was going to happen. It would have made sense to plan a response that didn't involve leaving people's medications, staff belongings, people's clothes and personal belongings.

The bridge wasn't his fault, but it did seem like a hasty decision that put a huge strain on service delivery, such that we still haven't recovered from.

We need to look for candidates that seek to unify the electorate. If we don't turn the ship and make some headway with getting people off of the streets and into treatment (that they actually want to access), this problem festers further. I'm hopeful that the new Shattuck pilot will be a step in the right direction, but we also need to ensure that people outside the 95 loop have access to services that support their communities as well. We also need to look beyond harm reduction and medication assisted treatment because drugs aren't getting us out of the drug problem, even if they can be useful in the short-term.

Massachusetts (and really America) needs recovery, and Martin's track record with the modern addiction recovery philosophies are underwhelming.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Labor unions, especially the building trades, would give him a state wide organization and plenty of money, and he has name recognition. But he would have no appeal in the wealthier, whiter suburbs where a lot of voters reside, and "Boston" is not a label that helps in most of the state. He could win a primary, especially one with multiple candidates. The Dem nominee will win the corner office if facing a Trump acolyte, but a Charlie Baker/Weld type would beat Walsh.
