can anyone explain the logistics, logic, and sustainability of allowing cars on Comm Ave. in the Chestnut Hill Ave-Packard's Corner stretch to make right turns from the main Comm Ave. travel lanes across the carriage lanes while both have parallel, simultaneous green lights?
The average driver in the main boulevard lanes trying to make a right turn while presented with a green light would be unaware of the need to crane their neck and check for parallel traffic sneaking up behind them in the carriage lane, so there seems to be a huge risk of T-bone collisions in that direction.
And then those drivers who do actually stop to look over their shoulder before venturing a right turn across the carriage lane run a pretty high risk of getting rear-ended by the 40-50 mph main-boulevard raceway traffic who have no tolerance for anyone easing up on the accelerator, let alone stepping on the brakes during a green light.
I'm not much of a driver but I wonder if in practice the carriage lane traffic generally yields to right-turning traffic cutting in front of them? Or do people generally avoid making right turns from the main travel lanes by shifting into the carriage lane an intersection or two prior to their intended right turn?

Turn right from Comm onto Warren. I always check the carriageway when doing so, and I yield to vehicles proceeding straight. Sometimes, they wave me in to complete the turn.

Taking 20 min to get a MBTA employee out there to sweep that stuff off and (more importantly) check the rails for any debris that might mess up the train seems pretty reasonable to me.
