Not all B Line delays are the T's fault
By adamg on Sat, 12/11/2021 - 3:54pm
Sundaram had a ringside seat to watch the aftermath of a two-car crash right atop the B Line tracks at Strathmore Road shortly before 3 p.m. The crashed caused delays of up to 20 minutes on the line, although the T now reports service is back to normal.

I'm figuring the black car at right was going pretty fast, given how many pieces it broke into.
Not another Nissan Altima.
Not another Nissan Altima.
Two minutes to the BU player for cross-checking.
BC on the power play.
Not that it was necessarily applicable in this accident, but
can anyone explain the logistics, logic, and sustainability of allowing cars on Comm Ave. in the Chestnut Hill Ave-Packard's Corner stretch to make right turns from the main Comm Ave. travel lanes across the carriage lanes while both have parallel, simultaneous green lights?
The average driver in the main boulevard lanes trying to make a right turn while presented with a green light would be unaware of the need to crane their neck and check for parallel traffic sneaking up behind them in the carriage lane, so there seems to be a huge risk of T-bone collisions in that direction.
And then those drivers who do actually stop to look over their shoulder before venturing a right turn across the carriage lane run a pretty high risk of getting rear-ended by the 40-50 mph main-boulevard raceway traffic who have no tolerance for anyone easing up on the accelerator, let alone stepping on the brakes during a green light.
I'm not much of a driver but I wonder if in practice the carriage lane traffic generally yields to right-turning traffic cutting in front of them? Or do people generally avoid making right turns from the main travel lanes by shifting into the carriage lane an intersection or two prior to their intended right turn?
I often
Turn right from Comm onto Warren. I always check the carriageway when doing so, and I yield to vehicles proceeding straight. Sometimes, they wave me in to complete the turn.
Hah! Even proceeding straight
Hah! Even proceeding straight west from the main right lane at Warren is an adventure!
It's very simple
"We've always done it that way."
Next question.
What are these people being
What are these people being paid for? Just sweep that ish off.
20 min seems pretty good?
Taking 20 min to get a MBTA employee out there to sweep that stuff off and (more importantly) check the rails for any debris that might mess up the train seems pretty reasonable to me.
Who?
Am I unaware that every MBTA grade crossing has a professional vehicle debris sweeper employee posted at it? Must be a boring job most of the time.
Not the only Comm wreck yesterday
Saw a longbed take a couple of cars away at Comm and Allston circa 10:15.
Yup
Yup, that one was bad enough that I got a T Alert saying they were running shuttle buses.
And you thought the T was
And you thought the T was safe from MassHoles?
