Two BPS buses had been parked at the old West Roxbury High; one is no longer drivable

Burned bus

On a walk to the marsh in front of the closed West Roxbury High School this morning, Mary Ellen noticed one of the BPS buses that had been parked there went up in flames at some point since her last visit a couple weeks ago.

Not as appealing as the usual avian subjects. But I guess it may still be a Blue Bird?

Put all the residents of Mass and Cass in the empty high school.

There's a reason it's not a high school anymore. Better the Roundhouse Hotel at Mass and Cass. At least it's still up to code.

It's time to decentralize services in in that area. The last thing needed down there is that hotel opening up and brining in more misery.

Forcing people to live in a sinking dilapidated High School with no treatment near by is the solution.

Brilliant! Someone call Wu, we just found her, her new Mass and Cass Director.

And the Roundhouse is located in the largest open-air drug market in New England. We would not want the dealers to travel far to keep their customers supplied. They might not know their way around in West Roxbury and the cops might actually bust them.

What is your plan here? What does your research/experience lead you to suggest?

Criminalizing drug use as a "war on drugs" is pretty much over - the drugs won.

I want the Mayor to hold to her promise to decentralize Mass and Cass, that is, not to close old services, but to add new services just like what we have across all the neighborhoods in Boston. There should be a methadone clinic, a needle exchange, supportive housing, and other treatment options, including SIFs, in every neighborhood, for of the 50 percent of the people on the street and in shelters in Mass and Cass who are from Boston, they are from all over the city, not just Roxbury and the South End.

I came here for a discussion on why a new-ish school is completely unusable. I honestly missed the memo. Kinda waiting for it to be torn down and made into more unaffordable housing.

Le sigh…

"Perille said BPS paid for emergency repairs to make the building safe for the current school year, but said ISD warned the building would be unlikely to pass another inspection after that. She said that just fixing the exterior problems for the long term would cost $11 million and that with an entirely new school costing about $100 million, it made sense to just shut the building at the end of the school year, raze it and put up a new building - even though that could take seven years."

Look on the bright side- BPS enrollment has dropped by like 5K over the past 10 years so I guess we don't need this building.
