He fought the law over mask refusal at Porter Square CVS and the law won, police say

Cambridge Police report arresting a local man they say responded to a request by a manager at the Porter Square CVS to put on a mask early Friday by shoving him. And when officers summoned by 911 arrived, he responded by going after them as well, police say.

Police say Stephen Costigan, 33, of Cambridge, reaction to the request, around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, was good enough to be arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. He also had an unspecified outstanding warrant, police say.

Innocent, etc.

A quick google turns up a police blotter story about a Stephen Costigan in the Camberville area almost every year for the last few.

To all of the region's (and the nation's) service workers - retail clerks, grocery store staff, MBTA drivers, waitstaff and host/esses, etc. You were thrown onto the front line of a battle that you didn't ask for, by "leadership" that declared mandates without any obvious or consistent means for enforcement. You spent every day wondering if today was going to be the day that some anti-mask fool decided to escalate to violence, and while we're not the gun-crazy part of the country, there was always that risk too.

If this is the same guy, it seems like he has a history of assaulting law enforcement officers.

It's a problem. Even if prison is the right place for someone in this situation, they won't and shouldn't get life for it. So what happens when they get out? Without mental health services, maybe in an inpatient setting, they're going to be in a worse situation than before and will likely go back to their old behavior.
