The street outside the UHubcave in Roslindale was so salt-encrusted this morning, people going out needed sunglasses for all the glare off the gleaming white surface.

its more cost effective to just throw a sh*t ton of salt down so people don't get hurt than it is to fight them (and pay out) in court.
Cuz you know it takes one slip and that person will have every ambulance chaser in the metro area ready and willing to take the case and sue the town for 'improper snow treatment & making the roadway a hazard'
Our society, where we spend more money on stupid crap to avoid paying out lawsuits.
I won't even begin to start on how bad salt is for the environment ....

I have a street near me in Boston that looks twice as salty as Adam's photo. If you let an inch of snow accumulate, the mayor (any mayor) gets crap about "not caring about the neighborhoods." I was just up in Southern Main on Saturday night. About 2 inches of snow fell and the town did nothing. The side streets were slippery but you know what? People are perfectly capable of dealing with that.

I live in a quiet metrowest town, and when you cross over into our town, you are greeted with a "[Town Name] Uses Minimal Salt - Use Caution" signs at the border.
Our streets, on the other hand, have more salt on them than is in that picture. The irony is glorious.
