Chinatown carjacking suspect is fished out of Boston Harbor, police say

Boston Police report a man who carjacked somebody on Beach Street in Chinatown Thursday afternoon - after first dragging the car's owner for a while - drove over to Steriti Rink on Commercial Street in the North End, behind which he jumped into the inner harbor and then foundered there for awhile until Boston officers and State Police could get him out of the cold water.

Police say the man, who they did not identify except to say he was 36, got into somebody else's car outside 27 Beach St. shortly before 4:20 p.m.

The victim stated that as he attempted to stop the male from taking the vehicle, the male drove off, dragging the victim a short distance before he fell from the vehicle. Officers observed the victim suffering from multiple contusions and abrasions. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Via one of the city's surveillance cameras, meanwhile, police got a photo of the guy - and then officers responded to Lovejoy Wharf, by the Charlestown Bridge on a report of a man in the water.

Officers removed the adult male from the water, and Boston EMS transported him to a local area hospital for an evaluation of his injuries from being in the water and psychological assessment.

Photo of the man about to be put on a stretcher.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., officers realized a car parked in front of the skating rink was the one from Beach Street and that the man they'd gotten out of the water was the man wanted for the carjacking. Officers went to the hospital and made sure the man would not be getting out of his bed, after arresting him on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and carjacking.

Seems like criminals are stupider and more abundant now? I guess that's good because they're easier and cheaper to arrest. Drugs and alcohol and their affects on people with rage wrath keep law enforcement employed.
