Man convicted of manslaughter for 2019 shooting death at Roslindale car lot

A Suffolk Superior Court jury yesterday found Richard Lugo guilty of manslaughter and various gun charges for the fatal shooting of Pascual Casiano and the wounding of a second man during a fight at their workplace on American Legion Highway on Oct. 31, 2019, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Prosecutors had charged Lugo with first-degree murder. He is scheduled for sentencing next month. In addition to reducing the conviction from first-degree murder to manslaughter, the jury acquitted Lugo of additional charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and larceny of a motor vehicle.

According to the DA's office, the shootings stemmed from an argument and fight at One Stop Shop Auto Repair & Sales, 581 American Legion Highway:

Casiano and a surviving victim were returning from lunch to their positions in automotive sales at American Legion Highway sales and repair shop, where Lugo occasionally worked in the businesses’ repair shop. There, Lugo confronted Casiano. After the altercation escalated into a into a physical fight, the second victim and another man attempted to intervene. Lugo pulled out a gun, shooting Casiano once in the abdomen and the surviving victim once in the hand. Lugo then fled in the other man's car.
