Doctor charged with upskirting women going into Back Bay store

Deteso

A radiologist from Saratoga Springs, NY, was arraigned today on charges he took photos up the skirts of at least 21 women entering or leaving the Anthropologie store at 203 Newbury St. in the Back Bay last August and then again last September.

Damon Deteso, 49, was arraigned via Zoom on 21 counts of secret sexual surveillance and 16 counts of attempt to commit a crime, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. He was released on his own recognizance - but ordered to stay out of Boston pending the outcome of his case - the DA's office reports.

Assistant District Attorney Daniel Nucci told the court that on September 24, 2021, Boston Police responded to a call at approximately 2:31 p.m. from Anthropologie at 203 Newbury Street. The manager told officers that a man had been sitting on the steps outside the store, taking 'upskirt' photos of customers without their knowledge. Deteso's cell phone had been in his backpack next to him on the steps, positioned so that people on the steps would step directly over the camera while Deteso recorded them.

That was about a month after staff at the store reported a similar incident - and photographed the alleged perp, the DA's office says, adding that the photo from that day matched one taken on Sept. 24.

Boston police were able to locate Deteso around 174 Newbury Street after identifying him as the subject of the photographs. After officers informed Deteso he was being detained, he agreed to be brought into custody for questioning. Deteso invoked his right to counsel in an interview at District 4. Detectives seized his cell phone, and after obtaining a search warrant found on it multiple videos taken by the defendant of several unaware victims.

Deteso was not unfamiliar with Boston - he did his residency at Tufts Medical Center and internship at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, after going to UMass Medical School in Worcester. Most recently, he had been a doctor with Millennium Medical Imaging, affiliated with Saratoga Hospital, both in Saratoga Springs. Both have scrubbed any record of him from their Web sites.

Innocent, etc.

At the time he went to med school, it was nearly impossible to get in unless you had the privilege of having a parent, aunt, uncle, or grandparent who practiced medicine.

I wonder if he's one of these stellar examples of such privileged affirmative action?

At least he mostly looks at bones and scans, with minimal direct patient examination.

All 50 year old MDs should be investigated by the Suffolk County DA and Sheriff.

If the story was about a 70-year old black radiologist, would you post a similar comment speculating that his medical school admission was affirmative action?

That's the sound of the point flying right over your head.

Google "legacy admissions" and then maybe you'll get it. But I doubt it.

He may be a pervert but he would have been in med school in the 1990’s not the 1950’s. Many med schools began actively diversifying-socio/economically and racially- their student population in the 1970’s, due to the demands of activists students. Why, they even let in women! And, certainly, U/Mass Medical would have been at the forefront of that movement.

same place where that Dr. Cooper was filming women in the bathroom a few years ago. He was also around the same age.

In the 1990s, when applications jumped, med schools - even state med schools - responded with preference for legacy admissions.

Sorry, but that's the reality of generational corruption.

And seriously, THAT'S where your head went? Not to the act itself or the victims, but your brain went into overdrive and came up with THAT theory?

Clutch those pearls hard enough and you'll have diamonds.

Diamonds and pearls are chemically dissimilar.

Pearls contain carbon.

Crush carbon hard enough ...

But I just have an undergrad degree in course 3 ... what do I know?

Pearls *contain* carbon, yes, but they're not graphite or any other carbon allotrope. They're calcium carbonate -- which is only about 12% carbon by mass. How do you imagine the other 88% migrating out? Why do you think it would specifically result in diamond and not, say, calcium oxide?

Diamonds do grow in a high-pressure environment, but they're not naturally formed from squeezing. (Yes, you can put graphite in a pressure cell. And like many people I learned as a kid that diamonds are squeezed coal, but turns out that just ain't true.) Apparently [checks Wikipedia and a geology site] they grow in a carbon-rich fluid in the usual way crystals grow.

It's a cute phrase, but this is not something to double down on.

Damon Deteso, 49

Anthropologie

Absolutely disgusting. That's a brand for girls in their early/mid 20s. Not enough to be a pervert, lets add some pedo flavor to it, too.

That's a brand for girls in their early/mid 20s.

1)People in their early/mid 20s are adults, 2)adult female humans are called "women", 3)many adults have sex, and 4)other adults being sexually interested in women is not "pedo" in any way. What this guy did was nonconsensual and all kinds of wrong, but it wasn't "pedo", and if we want concerns about pedophilia to be taken seriously, we shouldn't misuse the term.

also 5) Anthropologie is too expensive for women in their early/mid 20s. The target customers are wealthier women in their 30s.
