Dios mio: Board approves Colombian hot dogs until 3 a.m. in East Boston

At least one corner of the City that Always Sleeps is willing to accept food late into the night: The Boston Licensing Board today approved a request from Perros Paisas, 350 Bennington St. in East Boston, to stay open until 3 a.m.

The vote comes after a hearing Wednesday at which the mayor's office said no direct neighbors opposed Andres Jaramillo's request and the Eagle Hill Civic Association actually supported the idea of letting people chow down on his Colombian hot dogs until then.

Fans of rolling up the sidewalks early, though, might take solace that across the harbor, City Councilor Ed Flynn opposes a proposal by Broadway's Best Pizza, 483 East Broadway in South Boston, to extend its closing time on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. to allow for extra pickups and deliveries - the dining area would be closed in the extra hours.

An aide to the councilor said "a lot of residents" had expressed concern about a 3 a.m. pizza closing time and the fact the place had no met with residents since before the pandemic. Tina Thomas of Broadway's Best said she was taken aback by that, because the mayor's office told her there was no need for a neighborhood meeting because nobody opposed the idea.

The board voted to defer any action until after the pizza place holds a meeting with neighbors. Chairwoman Kathleen Joyce said the board "has had problems" elsewhere in Boston with late-night pizza.

A Domino's on Old Colony Avenue in South Boston is open until 2 a.m.

Considering nobody ever goes in there, I don't know why the hot dog place wants to stay open that late. Not a single soul ever goes into the Dunkin Donuts next door to it either, which is very odd. On the other hand, the small Latino ice cream place next to the Dunkin Donuts has a constant enormous line in the warmer months.

HiFi pizza was always empty but at 3am the line was out the door.

If not, I feel like you're not well positioned to judge whether anyone else does.

In any case, clearly the owners think there's enough demand to be worth paying to be open later.

This is "I really want food so I will walk a distance for it" from my house. (its not that far)

Its closer than the 711 at Broadway@Stockton (in almost Revere). Not a pretty walk at 2am.. but if I am hungry enough I will.

In my day, all we had Riley's Roast Beef in Allston (not that there was anything wrong with Riley's, mind you) for post-carousing junk food. Those days are long behind me, but that Perros Paisas stuff looks delicious. Kids today got it made!
