Florida man charged with in-flight sexual attack can fly back home, but can forget about flying to professional conferences for now, judge says

A Bonita Springs, FL man charged with masturbating and feeling up the woman next to him on a flight from Newark to Boston was released today on $10,000 unsecured bond and will be allowed to fly back home, but then he'll have to stay off planes - the judge in his case rejected his request to fly to professional conferences while his case is pending.

Donald Edward Robinson, 75, had asked permission to fly specifically to an ophthalmology conference in Washington, DC to represent an Ohio laser-eye-treatment company for which he was a consultant last week but where he was scheduled to become COO this week.

"I'm a little concerned about his necessity to fly while this matter is pending," given what he's charged with, US District Court Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler said at a hearing today. "It seems he could do any kind of meeting by Zoom."

Bowler then rejected his request to fly - except back home to Florida, where his fiancee now has 72 hours to get his gun out of his house. Bowler also ordered him to inform the company of the charges, which he said he had done yesterday.

The US Attorney's office says that on a flight from Newark here, after transferring from a plane from Ohio, Robinson first fondled himself inside his pants, then unzipped and kept going even as the woman next to him tried to ignore what her seatmate was doing, in part by pulling a jacket over her head. But then, five minutes before landing at Logan, authorities say, he reached under her clothing and began fondling her thigh. In the hubbub of landing, authorities say, Robinson managed to get down to baggage, claim is two bags and hop on a shuttle to the Aquarium T stop - where state troopers caught up with and arrested him.

If convicted, he faces up to 90 days in prison. He told Bowler this was the first time he'd ever been arrested.

Although the woman was 21, Bowler also ordered Robinson to stay away from any places where children might congregate, including schools, libraries, playgrounds and fast-food restaurants.

Innocent, etc.

And I would think he can forget about that COO job.

Really, at that age you should know not to jerk off on a plane.
Hold your horses pal and wait until you are on the ground

How do you eat in Bonita Springs, Florida without fast food restaurants?

I like to think that was added after the R Kelly trial

This is not good for the Florida Man franchise. Florida Man is supposed to be a lovable kook engaging in ill-considered behaviors that are amusing to the rest of the nation, not a sticky-fingered groper and bishop polisher.

When you land safely, that is a powerful aphrodisiac.

But really? For how long has he been doing this blow-and-go routine?

He had his eyes focused on her like a laser beam, I'm sure, which makes it is creepier.

Glad this guy got caught.

...is the way some people are reacting to it.

The guy who molested the young woman deserves to have his privileges for flying on airplanes taken away, to be tried and charged with sexual assault in a court of law, and to serve a long prison term for it.

Just not in the passenger cabin.

...which is a non sequitur.

I stand by my comment re: some of the reactions to this being extremely creepy.

Otherwise this is pretty vague. I have no idea which reactions you mean.

If you didn't feel it, I can't explain it to you.

The guy believed that he could get away with masturbating and then molesting the woman. I doubt if he was born with that belief. Through his life this is what he was taught. That wrong lesson was apparently never sufficiently corrected through his 75 years.

Considering that millions voted for a man who virtually admitted to sexual promiscuity and displays the attitude that women are to him either servants of labor or sexual satisfaction it is comprehensible that this 75 year man has always lived in a bubble that reinforced his belief of sexual superiority toward women.

The disgusting irony are the many conservative politicians and religious who condemn Gays as promiscuous, as child molesters, etc. all the while turning blind to the majority of sexual abuse which is by males against females. As though that is just boys being boys.

I think most people are born with a broad sense of entitlement. That seems to be how small children think: "I want it, I take it." And then we learn how to live in society.

Well, some of us do.

Why would he be allowed to fly home? Make this criminal take the bus home.
