No, Don Orsillo wasn't turning his back on Jerry Remy

Seems the Sox and NESN asked Orsillo to video a remembrance for the Remy memorial, then uninvited him for some reason. Here is what he would have said about his longtime broadcast partner and friend.

What a classless move by the Red Sox/NESN.
Sadly, just par for their course.
Thanks Don for your tribute to Remdawg.

Look no further than the Red Sox when you need an example of an organization so petty and dysfunctional that they'll unperson a harmless former employee when ostensibly paying tribute to the passing of another.

Unless it was at the request of the Remy family because that wouldn't surprise me either.

And I don't think it's much a mystery that after twenty years of the Henry regime, almost nobody wears a Sox hat any more, outside of reactionary radio nobody talks about the Sox and if the ratings are any indication of popularity, virtually nobody watches baseball any more.

The Remy family is a group of criminals including a convicted murderer. I wouldn’t put anything past them. A woman is dead because of Jerry Remy. Did the tribute mention that?

You’re going to have to explain that one

The Remy family is a group of criminals

To be fair, that's pretty much how Kinopio sees everybody with a driver's license.

But seriously folks, my understanding was that Jerry had a history of enabling his troglodyte son, repeatedly helping him to avoid the consequences of his bad behavior in the years that led up to the murder. I could never understand how Jerry was allowed to continue on with his broadcasting career after that (or why he wouldn't just do the classy thing and step down).

A woman is dead because of Jared Remy.

It's so (expletive) exhausting watching somebody in Boston claim that bad things are someone else's fault. This is precisely what I meant when I said that everyone there has lost their (expletive) mind.

I really, really swore that I wouldn't kick the place after leaving, and I still remember all the good times, but boy, this, and what the Licensing Board did to my buddy have really been sour.

As for the story itself, another prime example of something that wasn't a problem until some moron said it was one. Orsillo made the video, and they had the video. This whole bit of nonsense would have been avoided by some Sox executive shutting the (expletive) up. Really that easy.

Whomever intervened in this has forgotten (or didn't know) that the Red Sox exist for my entertainment, not theirs. Life is stupid enough thanks to government and housing markets as it is. I don't need the (expletive) baseball team to be obnoxious on purpose.

There were earlier incidents.

Jerry ran interference for his murderous son, and made sure he didn't see meaningful consequences and was roaming free to up his abuse game to murder.

99.9% of parents with criminals as kids do the same thing. We also don’t know how much the parents cut him off. All in all you have zero clue about what happened with that family.

Oh? In what jurisdiction did Jerry Remy serve as a DA?

Take off the Sox hat and use your head, Will.

Jared is responsible for Jared. Jerry is not responsible for Jared.

You were on here the other day blaming someone else's parents for not raising their children with fiscal responsibility...because they went shopping ...as teenagers.

But a lifelong crime spree (including murder) that was completely enabled by a parent of someone you like because he played game you like. That's off the table?

By using his influence to call off the cops. Repeatedly. FOR YEARS.

JaredRemy killed someone, but Jerry facilitated it.

The. End.

If you think the cops care about some Radio personality you have no clue.

Doesn't matter what you think of Remy. This is about the shameful way the Sox/NESN treated Don Orsillo.

I'm familiar with the murder that Jared Remy committed. Do you care to point me to the other criminals in the family?

Jerry Remy was an enabler of his son's abuse.

Did he break any laws in doing it? And even if he did, while I suppose that technically two is a "group" of criminals, but when you are talking about a "group" within a family, I'd certainly expect it to be more than just 2 people.

don and jerry were the best broadcast team i ever heard with the red sox. his leaving was mysterious and unusual considering his popularity with the fans. dave o'brien makes me want to fall asleep while watching to the games. the new broadcast teams they are using this season are bland, boring and unrecognizable (excluding Eck). i watched last night and i dont even know who the two guys in the booth were!? (im sure they are retired players that i know but i flipped on after the celtics game). the fact that they dissed orsillo on tribute night to remy seems petty and ridiculous. not signing bogaerts and devers is a huge mistake that will haunt them. i found it ironic that mo vaughn, another powerhitting lefty they let walk because they didnt want to pay him, threw out the opening day pitch ( i know it was different management) it just seems like every time this team has a chance to be more unlikable they do exactly that. ive been a fan for almost 50 years and im more interested in the mets this year than i am in the sox. please sell the team mr henry.

Play by play: Former Pawsox voice Mike Monaco, since 2020 filling in when O'Brien is unavailable , and analyst: Youk. Youkilis seems good to me so far.
The Orsillo snub is another example of the Henry empire burning through the goodwill that they earned early in the century.

Remy and Don were such a wonderful pairing. There's no excuse for inviting someone then disinviting them - so spiteful and such a "mean girls" move.

I disliked Remy.

However, as an announcer, he and Orsillo helmed what many consider (myself included) some of the absolute brightest moments in Red Sox (and sports) history.

Henry should jsell the Sox and focus on the Footie, except they don't want him either.

Poor guy.
