A bit of a dated local game

Bostonopoly game

Cat Queen reports she was packing up her father's house when, up in the attic, she uncovered this old Bostonized Monopoly game - which you could probably date just by the BankBoston logo.

Boston Edison space
Chance cards, one mentioning Celtics season opener
Boston Gas utility space
Most expensive space: Shreve Crump and Low
Filenes and Bloomingdales

was thoroughly Boston, as much as Jordan Marsh. It may have had a branch in NYC at some point, but it began and ended in Boston.

I still miss the basement, where I once bought a beautiful long coat of Italian cashmere for about $70. I treasure it to this day.

After it was demolished, leaving a pit that remained for several years, I used to imagine an art installation, consisting of a single mannequin, exposed to the elements on a pedestal at the center of the pit, wearing a wedding dress. Sadly this never came to pass.

you were saying that Bloomingdale's was the NYC version of Filene's. Sorry.

But still like your idea for the art installation. A missed opportunity.

If there was, I sure can't remember where it was.

Don't know about actually in Boston, though.

Pretty sure there was a Bloomingdales at the Prudential, accessible from one of the branch hallways to the east of the main arcade.

Saks, Barneys & Neiman Marcus (maybe some considered Lord & Taylor)

up

Ah yes, I was thinking of Saks.

whats the point since they are owned by the same company but marketed regionally (maybe to give n.y.c. tourists some familiar comfort ?) ?

(shouldnt be on a boston nostalgia board, nonetheless).

Federated retired the regional brands like Jordan Marsh around the time when this edition would have been made. They might have put Bloomingdale's in the game instead of Jordan Marsh since they knew Macy's was going to be the main brand for that segment going forward -- but might not have been willing to publicly commit to it just yet.

The Boston area Bloomingdale's is located in Chestnut Hill, right on Route 9 West.

Based on the Celtics 50 Years Logo.

Free Parking...

There's free parking all over the place.

What would be Boardwalk's equivalent - Pleasant Cafe maybe? Or would we just do streets like classic Monopoly (would Washington Street or Belgrade Avenue be the top spot)?

We'd have Roslindale Village and Bellevue for the railroads, but then what?

up

Technically, it's "Parkwayopoly." Now, if I could remember where my copy is, I'd be able to provide more details.

This week.

The temptation to make everything into resident spaces is just too high. Even if the parking shortage is mostly due to the residents themselves.

Note that the city's website describes the process to add resident parking (51% of residents need to sign a petition), but there's no such thing as a process to remove or even loosen resident restrictions.

51% is a pretty low bar. Has any such petition ever failed?

Just relabel it "Unprotected Bike Lane (Free Parking)"

Back in the day (70s-80s) what would become the "Seaport" was an area with several large, unpaved, vacant lots. Many of us that worked in the area parked in these lots for free.

I'm gonna take the rope and the revolver from Clue, and just grab the title deed.

Should have been "space saver"
with an old chair

Then you'd have to roll the dice again...

The space saver right on top of the monopoly property you actually own. Just gonna leave this folding chair figurine here...

before you could get that "You have won Boston Magazine's 'Best of Boston'" card?

I have a more recent (but probably not officially licensed) version

Minuteman Bikeway is in Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford, but not Boston.

Did the companies on the board pay to get their logos used in the game?

They must have.
No way Bank Boston really rates having the Park Place slot.
