White woman only gets probation for attacking East Boston mother and daughter who were speaking Spanish in public

NBC Boston reports a judge found Stephanie Armstrong guilty of assault and battery, dismissed civil-rights charges, then sentenced her to two years on probation for the 2020 incident. Her BFF had earlier also gotten probation for her part in the attack.

Both the linked story and the earlier NBC Boston story say that the verdicts were handed down by "a judge." Unless these are under-age judges, we should be told their name(s).

I'm your probation officer, María Concepción Hinojosa Gomez. Un placer, de verdad.

They can't count on the police and judicial system to react appropriately.

Is to shoot someone?

But this is a notable trend because "meaningful consequences for racist assholes" seems to elude our society despite being the appropriate solution.

The attackers were arrested, charged, and sentenced (in this case, tried, found guilty, and sentenced, but I cannot remember if the girlfriend plea or was convicted) for the crimes. It would appear that the only concern would be with the sentence. Now, if you are saying that the result of lenient sentences is to buy a gun, I'd say there is an inference that the gun is a part of the solution.

In all honesty, I don't know what to think about the sentences. Would probation be typical of an A&B charge on someone without a record? If so, well, that's an entire discussion that could make people who are upset with the disposition of the case more uneasy than they'd like to be.

Are you saying the sentencing for their terrorism was reasonable?

(where's that sea lion to English dictionary ...)

You are saying the extrajudicial punishment is okay?

There is a history in this country of people taking things into their own hands when they feel that the punishment meted out by the government was insufficient. It’s not the brightest part of the history.

The white woman who attacked the Spanish-speaking woman and her daughter who were speaking Spanish out in public is an adult, and should be arrested, tried for and charged with assault and battery in an adult court of law, and serve an adult term in an adult prison. There's no reason for this woman who committed the assault should get just a slap on the wrist.

With an illegal firearm? Because it certainly seems like they get off more often than not, or get a very short jail term.

I think all of the above should be locked up. That behavior doesn’t belong in a civilized society.

Jailing her doesn't do the victims any good, but monetary reparations would.
