Two guys were tooling around East Boston with two guns loaded with a total of 28 rounds; nabbed because their car's window tinting was too dark, police say

Boston Police report arresting two Chelsea men they say were driving around East Boston Saturday afternoon in a car with excessive tinting, an obscured front license plate and two guns loaded with a total of 28 bullets.

Police say gang-unit officers spotted the dark-windowed car as they were heading towards McClellan Highway on Boardman Street around 5 p.m. and that they pulled the car over at Barnes Avenue and Saratoga Street.

As a result of the traffic stop and after further investigation, officers recovered two firearms from the motor vehicle. Firearm #1 was determined to be a loaded Springfield Armory, USA XD-9 9mm, with thirteen rounds in the magazine. Firearm #2 was determined to be a loaded Springfield Armory USA XD-9 9mm, with fifteen rounds in the magazine. Also recovered was a box of loose ammunition containing thirty-seven rounds.

Justin Palma, 19, and Andre Cheek, 24, both from Chelsea, were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Having whatever the median wealth is of a 19-year old (or even a 24-year old) in Chelsea, and spending what little money you have on window tint, and guns to defend yourself against theft of the wealth that you don't have.

Seriously, why isn't *this* the anti-gun public service message?

I believe the guns and tint are part of a typical cost of business if your car is a delivery vehicle for something illegal or that others with guns may want to force ably take from you....anybody have any ideas what that might be....sad but true. Or maybe the guns were a bday gift from g'ma and have tints are to avoid the glare.

"If someone pulls a gun on you, you're not getting to yours."

Or better yet, to quote Scott from Austin Powers: "Why don't we just kill him while he's on the crapper?"

Here's another quote, “You can get more with a kind word and a gun than with just a kind word.”

The obscured license plates are a fairly common thing in Dorchester but there seems to be no enforcement unless the cops are looking for a pretext to stop you. One of my tenants has had one on her car since she moved in 18 months ago and you can't read her plate if you are more than 20' away. She parks on the street and seems to drive a lot; I don't know how she gets away with it. It raised my suspicion when I first saw her car plate after she moved in but she turns out to be a decent person.

Cars on my street get ticketed weekly for expired stickers, street cleaning etc., but obscured plates seem to get a pass from enforcement; weird.

In certain areas, there's bigger fish to fry.

When I lived in Hartford the solid majority of cars had tinted license plate covers. Lotta cars didn't even have back license plates. Never saw a person pulled over in Hartford in 5 years. Not one.

Remove the covers with a screwdriver. Criminal drivers need to face consequences from someone. They have something to hide and it’s not Girl Scout cookies.

A license plate like that almost hit me and my kids after running a light when we were on a crosswalk.

Guess he would have just been allowed to get away with it since no one would have gotten his plates? Not good.

Apologies for sort of being off subject, but we had another great meetup over the weekend. Discussed the issue of crime among other things. Thanks for all who came. New friends, laughs and healthy debate!
